JAKARTA – The implementation of the Pemungutan Suara Ulang (PSU) or Revote in 19 regions across Indonesia has garnered widespread public appreciation, as expressed during a public hearing (Rapat Dengar Pendapat, RDP) convened by Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) with the General Elections Commission (KPU), Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and the Election Ethics Council (DKPP).

The hearing highlighted the success of the PSU, which recorded a voter turnout exceeding 60 percent—a strong indication of public political awareness and the readiness of election organizers to uphold the right to vote.

Deputy Chairman of Commission II, Dede Yusuf, directly conveyed the appreciation, noting the PSU’s smooth execution and positive public participation.

“This is a commendable achievement by the election organizers for conducting the revote with a high level of voter turnout,” Dede said during the conclusion of the session.

The KPU was also urged to carry out a comprehensive evaluation and prepare mitigation strategies for any potential issues ahead of future PSUs. This is considered crucial to strengthen the integrity and efficiency of Indonesia’s democratic processes—particularly in anticipation of upcoming PSUs in five more regions scheduled for May 24 and August 6, 2025.

KPU Chairman Mochammad Afifuddin explained that the 2025 PSUs were mandated by Constitutional Court decisions on regional election disputes from the 2024 Pilkada. He also reported the commission’s readiness in terms of budgeting, human resources, and logistics.

Support from local governments was also evident. Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, emphasized the importance of active public participation to ensure the success of the Papua gubernatorial revote.

“Let’s ensure the success of this revote to elect leaders who truly reflect the people’s aspirations,” Ramses urged.

He also underlined the importance of neutrality from civil servants (ASN), election organizers, and security forces. According to Ramses, professionalism and impartiality from all parties are essential to ensure a peaceful and fair PSU. He also warned incumbent regional heads affiliated with political parties not to misuse their positions for campaign purposes unless permitted by law.

“I’m confident that if neutrality is upheld, the PSU will proceed safely and smoothly, avoiding any conflicts of interest,” he added.

This wave of appreciation for the PSU reflects a collective commitment to fostering an inclusive and high-quality democratic process across the nation.
