PUIC Conference Held in Jakarta, Indonesia Demonstrates Leadership in the Islamic World

Jakarta — Indonesia is hosting the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), taking place from May 12 to 15, 2025. As host, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) reinforces Indonesia’s role as a diplomatic bridge within the Islamic world, adopting the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience.”
Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of DPR RI, Mardani Ali Sera, highlighted the strong enthusiasm among delegates from OIC member states attending the conference, held at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta.
“Previously, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) was held in hotels, but this time, the PUIC is being hosted directly in the DPR building—an event of this scale poses unique challenges, given the character and layout of the parliamentary chambers,” he noted.
Mardani explained that one of the core agenda items of the 19th PUIC is the discussion on good governance and strong institutions as the foundation for more open, accountable, and transparent states, supported by agile and progressive bureaucracies.
“With such governance in place, foreign investment can increase, the economy can grow, and human capital can improve. These are the key tasks we aim to emphasize—so that all member states are truly committed to working toward the welfare of their people,” he concluded.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized that hosting the PUIC conference is both a great honor and a significant responsibility for Indonesia.
“We seek to use this forum as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity among Islamic countries in confronting global challenges, while reaffirming Indonesia’s role as a bridge for dialogue and cooperation among Muslim nations,” Puan stated.
By organizing the 19th PUIC, Indonesia not only demonstrates its readiness to serve as host, but also reinforces its commitment to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation among OIC countries. It is hoped that the conference will yield strategic recommendations that promote peace, development, and the prosperity of Muslim communities amid increasingly complex global challenges.
