Regional Head Retreat Produces Disciplined and Responsible Leader Figures
Jakarta – Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Tito Karnavian emphasized that the regional head retreat held at the Magelang Military Academy (Akmil) was not intended to provide military training, but rather to shape the character of regional leaders to be more disciplined and responsible in carrying out their duties.
“We learn from Akmil not about its militarism, but there are important values that also apply in the private sector, such as discipline and punctuality,” said Tito.
He hopes that the values obtained from this retreat can be applied by regional heads in carrying out their duties, including in terms of punctuality.
“When holding a meeting at 9 o’clock, it really starts at 9 o’clock,” he added.
In addition, regional heads are also taught to maintain cleanliness, including ensuring that the bed is neat before leaving the tent. According to Tito, discipline and cleanliness are important aspects that are also applied in the private sector and bureaucracy, considering that the main task of bureaucrats is to serve the public.
Furthermore, he emphasized that this retreat is also an opportunity for regional heads to get to know each other and establish relationships with fellow regional heads and ministers. He said that even though it had only been running for a day, the participants had already started to build connections with each other.
“This retreat is an important momentum to establish relationships and chemistry between regional heads and the central government,” explained Tito.
One of the retreat participants, Parepare Mayor Tasming Hamid (TSM), said that this activity provided an opportunity for regional leaders to deepen their understanding of leadership that is oriented towards community service
“This retreat is a moment for me to deepen the meaning of service-based leadership. We learned how to be a strong leader, but still prioritize human values,” said Tasming Hamid.
He added that this activity not only emphasized mental and spiritual strengthening, but also discussed effective leadership strategies in facing government challenges. The reflective atmosphere in the Akmil Magelang environment provided an opportunity for participants to think strategically and improve the quality of decision-making.
In addition to reflection and spiritual strengthening sessions, this retreat included leadership discussions, character training, and physical activities to maintain physical and spiritual balance. Participants were encouraged to hone their strategic thinking skills and improve the effectiveness of their leadership.
Tasming Hamid’s participation in this retreat reflects his commitment to continue learning and developing in order to realize a better, more prosperous, and more advanced Parepare. He hopes that the leadership values gained during the retreat can be applied in supporting his superior programs in order to improve the quality of service to the community.
