JAKARTA – The implementation of the Revote (Pemungutan Suara Ulang/PSU) serves as concrete evidence of the government’s commitment to upholding the quality of democracy.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, emphasized the importance of a comprehensive evaluation of the PSU to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

He stated that electoral governance must be improved from the outset to avoid legal loopholes that could lead to disputes in the Constitutional Court.

“This revote must undergo a fundamental evaluation to prevent the potential for future lawsuits. The key is political commitment without interference,” Bima stated.

He added that the execution of the PSU is also significantly influenced by the prevailing political climate.

Therefore, all parties are urged to maintain neutrality to ensure the integrity of the democratic process.

Together with Deputy Minister Ribka Haluk, Bima directly monitored the PSU in various regions with the support of the Directorate General of Regional Autonomy (Ditjen Otda) and the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance (Ditjen Keuda) to ensure budget efficiency.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Ribka Haluk emphasized that the PSU is a tangible expression of the government’s commitment to ensuring a fair, transparent, and accountable democratic process.

She called on all stakeholders to ensure there are no obstacles during the revote and praised those who have worked diligently to prepare for the election rerun.

“The PSU must proceed smoothly and without any non-substantial issues. This should serve as a valuable lesson for all of us to make improvements moving forward,” said Ribka.

In Mahakam Ulu, East Kalimantan, the PSU serves as a critical test of democratic consolidation in a border region.

The Mahakam Ulu Election Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu) has declared its readiness to oversee all stages of the PSU to prevent repeat violations.

Totok Hariyono, a member of the national Bawaslu, commended the preparedness of regional Bawaslu officers and emphasized the importance of upholding regulations.

“Comprehensive supervision is essential to ensure transparency and accountability,” Totok asserted.

He also stressed the importance of close coordination with security forces to maintain a conducive environment.

According to him, this PSU represents a maturing democratic process and should be used as an opportunity to address shortcomings in previous elections.

With active public participation, strict oversight by election watchdogs, and full government support, the PSU is expected to serve as a benchmark for more credible and high-integrity elections in the future.
