Jakarta – The 19th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), held at the DPR/MPR RI Building in Jakarta, has taken place in a safe and conducive atmosphere. Security forces demonstrated their full preparedness by implementing a persuasive and human-centered security strategy—without the use of firearms.

A total of 1,146 joint personnel from various security agencies were deployed to safeguard the event, which is attended by delegates from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This approach reflects Indonesia’s efforts, as host, to ensure safety while maintaining a sense of comfort and calm for all participants.

Central Jakarta Police Chief, Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro, explained that all personnel had been strictly instructed not to carry firearms while on duty. This measure was aimed at creating a friendly and non-intimidating environment.

“In securing this event, we prioritize a persuasive and friendly approach. All personnel have been directed not to carry firearms. This reflects our commitment to maintaining a peaceful, safe, and comfortable atmosphere for all visiting delegates,” said Susatyo.

Security was implemented comprehensively across various strategic points, including the main conference venue, arrival and departure routes for state guests, delegate accommodations, and potential hotspots around the Senayan area. Anticipatory measures were taken against both physical disturbances—such as traffic congestion and demonstrations—and non-physical threats, including cyberattacks, through inter-agency coordination.

“This is more than just a security operation. It’s about demonstrating that Indonesia is a friendly, orderly, and trustworthy host for international events. That’s why we instructed all personnel to work with heart, uphold ethics, and maintain professionalism,” Susatyo added.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police also deployed personnel from its Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit to bolster the security system. Eight Company-Level Units (SSK) from the Riot Control Division (PHH) were deployed, supported by motorcycles, bomb disposal teams (Jibom), and tactical vehicles including Barracudas, Armoured Water Cannons (AWC), and security barriers.

Commander of the Brimob Unit of Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Henik Maryanto, emphasized that a heavily armed presence was not the primary focus. Instead, the emphasis was on responsiveness, alertness, and the ability of personnel to maintain peace while being prepared for any eventuality.

“The Brimob Unit of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police is fully committed to safeguarding national security, especially in the context of an international forum like the 19th PUIC Conference. We aim to create a sense of safety, not tension,” said Henik.

He also called on the public to maintain order and support the smooth running of the event. Public participation, he noted, plays an important role in shaping Indonesia’s image on the international stage.

“We urge the public to remain calm, uphold public order, and support the security efforts in place to ensure the success of this international-scale event,” Henik said.

With an approach grounded in professionalism, humanism, and cross-sector coordination, Indonesia’s security forces have demonstrated their readiness and maturity in managing the security of international events.
