JAKARTA – The National TB Alert Movement is increasingly demonstrating its effectiveness as a national strategy for comprehensive tuberculosis control. Collaboration between central and regional governments is becoming more robust, focusing on strengthening healthcare services, improving early detection, and empowering communities. This initiative underscores Indonesia’s commitment to achieving TB elimination by 2030.

The government has designed strategic policies that address the root of the problem, ranging from the provision of healthcare infrastructure to integrated reporting mechanisms. Regional governments play a crucial role as direct implementers on the ground, especially in areas with high vulnerability. This two-way approach makes the program more relevant and impactful.

One tangible form of this synergy is the launch of the Joint Movement to Strengthen TB-Alert Villages and Subdistricts. Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ribka Haluk, emphasized that strengthening efforts from the grassroots level will be key to the movement’s success.

“Regional governments must proactively support this movement because villages and subdistricts are the front line in TB control,” said Ribka Haluk.

She also appreciated the role of the Ministry of Health in ensuring effective interagency collaboration.

“The Minister of Health has shown great concern for public health issues and has consistently coordinated with the Ministry of Home Affairs. This deserves recognition,” added Ribka Haluk.

The movement is also supported by educational campaigns that reach various layers of society. A range of creative media is being used to convey important messages about the symptoms, dangers, and importance of completing TB treatment. The government ensures that this approach is inclusive and reaches vulnerable groups without discrimination.

In the same effort, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin highlighted the importance of treatment continuity for TB patients.

“Patients require long-term treatment, and supervision throughout this period is crucial to prevent drug resistance,” emphasized Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

He added that the Jakarta Capital Region is being designated as a pilot project for TB elimination.

“With strong monitoring and community support, Jakarta could become the first province to be completely TB-free,” concluded Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

This positive momentum is already showing promising results, with an increase in early detection rates as an indication of a well-functioning system. The government continues to promote cross-sectoral integration and interregional collaboration as part of a collective movement toward a TB-free Indonesia.
