Jakarta – The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program launched by the Indonesian government has shown significant positive impacts, not only in improving people’s welfare, but also in strengthening the regional economy.

Through this program, local residents not only gain access to affordable nutritious food, but are also actively involved in providing raw materials from local natural resources. This provides new economic opportunities for many regions, creating a positive multiplier effect for the community.

Head of the Presidential Communications Office, Hasan Nasbi said that one important aspect of the Free Nutritious Meals program is the involvement of local residents in providing raw materials at each Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG).

“This program not only provides direct benefits in meeting the nutritional needs of the community, but also leverages the regional economy. By involving local communities in managing raw materials, this program also encourages economic sustainability in the region,” said Hasan.

For example, many regions involved in the MBG program have provided raw materials such as vegetables, rice, fish, and meat from local farmers and ranchers.

“With this involvement, local producers get a wider market, while the community can access healthy food at a more affordable price,” he added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the State Financial Accountability Agency (BAKN) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Herman Khaeron said that the Free Nutritious Meal program has great potential to become a new economic generator in various regions.

“This program not only meets the nutritional needs of beneficiaries, but also provides significant economic opportunities for the community. With the involvement of local residents in providing nutritious food through SPPG, we can see that the local economy is also growing,” said Khaeron.

The involvement of local residents is not only limited to providing food ingredients, but also includes other aspects such as opening up new economic opportunities for the community.

“Here the community can participate in providing food ingredients, processing, distribution, and serving food. All of this opens up new job opportunities for the local community, especially in areas that have so far received less attention in the economic sector,” he explained.

Meanwhile, a researcher from the Center of Reform on Economic (CORE) Indonesia, Eliza Mardian, assessed that this program is able to create a multiplier effect for the community.

“In addition to providing access to nutritious food, this program also encourages the welfare of local producers and creates jobs. The Free Nutritious Meal Program not only directly benefits public consumption, but also strengthens people’s purchasing power and increases regional economic productivity,” said Mardian.

“This program can also encourage other economic sectors to grow, such as transportation and trade. In addition, the government also provides training for residents to improve the quality of local food products, thereby improving people’s living standards,” he added.

The Free Nutritious Meal Program is real evidence of the government’s commitment to improving people’s welfare, while boosting the regional economy. Through the involvement of local residents in every stage of food provision, this program not only meets nutritional needs, but also opens up new economic opportunities that are beneficial to the community.

This program should be supported by all elements of society because it can improve the regional economy and ensure equal distribution of welfare throughout Indonesia. With the spirit of mutual cooperation and synergy between the government, community, and private sector, it is believed that this program will continue to have a positive impact and provide new hope for the future of the Indonesian economy.
