Sustainable Infrastructure Governance Marks First Year of Prabowo–Gibran Administration

Jakarta — As President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka complete their first year in office, the national development agenda has increasingly emphasized a strong commitment to sustainable infrastructure governance. The government is determined to ensure that infrastructure development goes beyond economic growth by balancing environmental protection and social equity.

Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, stated that strengthening sustainable infrastructure governance is a key foundation for realizing the Indonesia Vision 2045. According to him, infrastructure must generate long-term value for the people and future generations.

“Every piece of infrastructure we build is not only about today’s progress but also a legacy we leave for our grandchildren. Wise infrastructure unites people—it doesn’t divide,” Dody said in Jakarta.

He added that infrastructure development can no longer be seen as merely physical projects. Behind it lies a significant responsibility to ensure balance among economic, environmental, and social considerations.

“Infrastructure governance must make sustainability a necessity, not an option,” Dody stressed.

The Ministry of Public Works is currently implementing this approach by prioritizing 50 cities and regions, supported by various Presidential Instructions. These include the development of irrigation systems for food security, school rehabilitation, regional road improvements to boost connectivity, and the creation of integrated zones for food, energy, and water.

“This approach is not just about building but ensuring the impact of development cuts across sectors and generations,” he noted.

Meanwhile, strong support also comes from the national banking sector. Bank Mandiri’s Corporate Secretary, M Ashidiq Iswara, revealed that as of August 2025, the bank has disbursed Rp412.13 trillion in infrastructure loans—a 15.23% increase compared to Rp357.65 trillion during the same period last year.

“Bank Mandiri remains committed to playing a strategic role as the government’s partner in strengthening the nation’s economic foundation through infrastructure financing. This effort is not only about building roads, bridges, or airports—it’s about opening access for people to grow, thrive, and prosper,” Ashidiq said.

He emphasized that this financing demonstrates the financial sector’s tangible support for national development beyond the State Budget (APBN).

“We believe infrastructure development creates a strong multiplier effect on the economy—from job creation and increased interregional connectivity to stimulating investments in productive sectors,” he added.

On the other hand, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), highlighted that improved interregional connectivity is key to accelerating equitable developmentand economic growth.

“Robust connectivity not only facilitates the movement of people, goods, and services—it also strengthens the foundation of both local and national economies,” AHY explained.

He emphasized the importance of synergy between central and regional governments in accelerating infrastructure development. This collaboration encompasses not only road construction but also sustainable agriculture and the development of industrial and commercial areas.

“At the central level, we aim to integrate various development aspects, including spatial planning. Not all land should be converted—some must be preserved for sustainable agriculture,” AHY said.

The government’s current policies reflect a more integrated and forward-looking development strategy. Through cross-sector collaboration and sustainable financing, infrastructure development under the Prabowo–Gibran administration is expected to enhance Indonesia’s economic competitiveness while preserving social and environmental balance.
