Synergize to Reject Online Gambling as a Source of Community Suffering
Jakarta – National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized the police’s commitment to eradicating online gambling which is increasingly rampant and disturbing the public. In the 2025 National Police Leadership Meeting (Rapim), he asked all ranks to continue to actively dismantle this illegal practice, including the involvement of police officers.
“Online gambling among the lower classes is very much felt, even targeting minors,” said Listyo
He emphasized the importance of prevention and strict law enforcement, including coordination with various related agencies. According to him, this step is needed to truly resolve the problem of online gambling.
“We must conduct daily checks regarding the involvement of members, and enforce the law as well as possible,” he said.
In addition, Listyo emphasized the need to pursue online gambling bookies and investigate money laundering (TPPU) from the proceeds of these crimes.
“We will also carry out TPPU against large bookie groups, so that their assets can be confiscated and returned to the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Papua High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) together with the Jayapura Regency Communication and Information Service (Kominfo) are also working together to combat online gambling which is increasingly disturbing the public.
Head of the Papua High Prosecutor’s Office’s Legal Information Section, Aguwani, emphasized that this step is a follow-up to the instructions of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who emphasized the importance of eradicating online gambling in order to maintain cyber security and the country’s economy.
“We are taking this step in response to the President’s instructions, considering that online gambling is increasingly rampant and has the potential to harm the country’s economy,” he said.
One of the main efforts made is to increase legal literacy for the public, especially in Papua. This step aims to provide a deep understanding of the dangers and legal consequences of involvement in online gambling.
“By increasing legal literacy, it is hoped that the public can avoid this illegal practice,” he added.
In addition, the Papua High Prosecutor’s Office and Jayapura Kominfo continue to strengthen socialization regarding the dangers of online gambling and the importance of maintaining integrity in the digital world. This step is expected to be able to reduce the number of online gambling cases and provide a deterrent effect for the perpetrators.
With collaborative efforts between various agencies, the eradication of online gambling is expected to be more effective, so that society can be protected from the negative impacts of these illegal practices.
