JAKARTA – Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Trinovi Khairani Sitorus, emphasized the importance of synergy between the government, educational institutions, and the community in eradicating online gambling which is increasingly worrying. According to him, the negative impact of online gambling not only damages the economic conditions of individuals, but also has the potential to destroy households.

“The case of online gambling is very concerning, there needs to be synergy between the government, educational institutions, and the community to provide a broader understanding of the dangers of online gambling,” he said in the Online Gambling Alert Public Discussion Forum organized by the Directorate General of Public Communication and Media, Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi).

Trinovi appreciated the steps taken by Kemkomdigi in preventing the spread of online gambling. He said that the involvement of various parties, including the Indonesian House of Representatives, academics, and the community, is very necessary to create effective policies in eradicating this illegal practice.

“Today I think the Ministry of Communication and Digital has made serious efforts to handle online gambling,” he said.

Furthermore, Trinovi revealed that more than five million online gambling sites have been blocked by Kemkomdigi. However, major challenges remain, considering that new sites continue to emerge despite ongoing blocking efforts.

“One of the challenges is that more and more sites appear every time a block is carried out, thus affecting the public,” he explained.

Therefore, he emphasized the importance of broader collaboration, including with local governments, so that prevention and eradication of online gambling can be more effective. According to him, the involvement of law enforcement officers is also a key factor in eradicating online gambling networks that often operate with increasingly sophisticated methods.

“So in my opinion, there needs to be synergy between the Ministry of Communication and Digital with local governments and the community so that this effort is more optimal,” he added.

In addition to technical measures such as blocking sites, Trinovi also emphasized the importance of educating the public so that they do not fall into online gambling practices. Socialization regarding the negative impacts of online gambling must continue to be encouraged, especially to the younger generation who are the main targets of online gamblers.

In closing, Trinovi invited the entire community to stay away from online gambling and contribute to creating a healthy and safe digital environment.

“If the community does not want to be supported, automatically the Ministry of Communication and Digital will also find it difficult to eradicate it. There is no benefit from playing online gambling. I hope the younger generation can stay away from this practice. Let’s work together to create a healthy, safe, and productive digital environment,” he concluded.
