ASEAN (Association of South East Asia n Nations ) is an economic and political union of 10 countries in Southeast Asia which was founded on August 8 , 1967 in Thailand. Indonesia is an active member of ASEAN, apart from Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore and Timor Leste.

Indonesia becomes Chair of ASEAN in 2023. After becoming chairman, the 2023 ASEAN Summit will be held in this country, to be precise in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) in May 2023. The Indonesian people, especially Labuan Bajo residents, fully support the 2023 ASEAN Summit because it will very profitable, from an economic and tourism perspective.

In a sense, the people of Labuan Bajo support the ASEAN Summit because it is very profitable for them, and the region will become increasingly known to Southeast Asians and the rest of the world. The reason is because when there is the 2023 ASEAN Summit, international journalists will come to cover and then they will be amazed by the natural beauty of Labuan Bajo.

If Labuan Bajo’s nature and tourism are highlighted by international media, the place will become more popular and it is hoped that foreign tourist visits will also increase. They will travel there because they watch the coverage, both on television and on the YouTube channel.

When Labuan Bajo tourism becomes more popular, it is very good and foreign tourist visits will increase the income of local entrepreneurs there. Especially for hotel and other lodging businesses. After 3 years of the pandemic and business being quiet, at the Summit the hotel occupancy will be filled again. Both from the summit participants and foreign tourists who want to take a vacation and enjoy the natural beauty of NTT.

The same goes for food stalls and cafes. Their places will be filled with foreign tourists vacationing in NTT, after these tourists watched coverage of the summit in Labuan Bajo. The world of tourism in NTT and its surroundings will be dynamic again.

Support from community leaders and local residents of Labuan Bajo, NTT, is very much needed. The reason is because this event will be a success and will be fully supported by the people. They are proud to participate in popularizing the 2023 ASEAN Summit on their respective social media.

Meanwhile, DPRD Member from the PKB Fraction of West Manggarai Regency, Sewargading S. asked for the full support of the people of West Manggarai in general and the people who are on the Golo Mori –Labuan Bajo route in particular, that the organizing committee for the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo must be successful. This is a shared responsibility between the government and society.

In a sense, it is not only the people who support the ASEAN Summit but also the people’s representatives. All support is needed to make this event run smoothly. No individual is determined to invite the people to demonstrate against the Summit, because everyone believes that this event is beneficial for Indonesia.

The ASEAN Summit is a summit meeting between the leaders of ASEAN member countries in relation to economic and cultural development among Southeast Asian countries. Since the formation of ASEAN there have been 41 official summits, 4 unofficial summits and 1 extraordinary summit.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi stated that the 2023 ASEAN Summit would discuss strengthening ASEAN’s institutional capacity and effectiveness while for the retreat there were two major issues that would be discussed, namely relations between ASEAN and external parties, of course, including external challenges faced by ASEAN and the Myanmar issue.

In a sense, the ASEAN Summit will discuss ASEAN’s relations with other countries, especially in the economic field. This is very good because ASEAN is seen as a potential region and although on average it is still a developing country, its economy is good and not affected by the effects of the global recession.

If at the ASEAN Summit the economy is discussed, there will be cooperation between Indonesia and ASEAN countries and this has a positive effect on the people. The reason is because the number of investors is increasing (from entrepreneurs in the ASEAN region) and it has a positive impact on the economy.

The 2023 ASEAN Summit will be held in Labuan Bajo. The community fully supports the ASEAN Summit because it will have a positive effect, especially in the economic and tourism fields. The Indonesian people, especially those living in Labuan Bajo, support the 2023 ASEAN Summit because it will popularize the region internationally.
