Jakarta – The first session of the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference officially opened in Jakarta on Monday (May 12, 2025). As the host country, Indonesia welcomed parliamentary leaders from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, expressed her pride in the trust bestowed upon Indonesia.

“Indonesia is honored to host the 19th PUIC Conference, and we warmly welcome the delegates from our friendly nations,” said Puan during the opening of the forum.

With the theme Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience, the conference emphasizes the importance of transparent governance and strong institutions as the foundation of national resilience. This forum also addresses issues such as democracy, political stability, and the global challenges facing the Islamic world.

“Indonesia, through the Indonesian House of Representatives, is ready to act as a bridge in promoting dialogue, cooperation, and change among the parliaments of Islamic countries,” Puan emphasized.

The conference coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the PUIC in 1999. The Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, mentioned that preparations had been carefully made in terms of substance, logistics, and security.

“It is both an honor and a great responsibility for Indonesia to host the 19th PUIC Conference. We want to ensure that this event is successful, substantive, and has a tangible impact in strengthening solidarity within the Islamic world,” said Mardani.

The Indonesian House of Representatives also raised issues related to the participation of women and youth in development, as well as cooperation among OIC countries for sustainable development and environmental issues.

“We are bringing up the issue of woman and youth participation, specifically how the roles and participation of women and young people in Muslim countries can be strengthened,” explained Mardani.

Participants showed high enthusiasm, with delegates from Palestine, Kazakhstan, Iran, Turkey, and Mozambique in attendance. This conference is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s position in inter-parliamentary diplomacy within the Islamic world.
