The Importance of Participation by All Elements, Including Young People, in the 2024 Regional Elections
Kupang — The participation of all elements of society, including young people, is very important in the implementation of the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada).
Chairman of the Indonesian Timor Community Care Institute, Mariano Parada, revealed that holding the 2024 regional elections is important.
The reason is, with the Pilkada, it will further strengthen Indonesian democracy and involve the community in determining the direction of future leadership.
“The 2024 Pilkada is an important pillar in strengthening democracy, because through the 2024 Pilkada the public can directly evaluate previous leadership and determine the leadership for the next five years,” he said.
Therefore, he continued, because the implementation of the Pilkada is very important, it is also important for the active participation of the entire community.
“The most important thing is that through the 2024 regional elections, the community can participate and cast their vote, exercise their political rights and be directly involved in determining the direction of future regional development policies,” said Mariano.
Furthermore, he conveyed several steps that should be intensified to attract active participation from millennials or young voters.
“To increase the participation of young voters or millennials, or what we know as first-time voters, it is of course important to carry out socialization and political education campaigns through social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X) and especially TikTok,” he explained.
Of course, content creator friends and influencers, he added, are very effective tools for carrying out campaigns via social media.
“Apart from that, it can be done through public debates and panel discussions, including workshops on campuses and in local communities so that it can increase or make fellow novice voters aware of being able to participate in the 2024 regional elections,” said Mariano.
Likewise, the General Chairperson of the NTT Muhammadiyah Student Association Regional Leadership, Tita Nandita Oktaviani also said that the 2024 regional elections are an important moment in the journey of democracy.
“The 2024 regional elections are an important moment in Indonesia’s democratic journey. “At the end of this year, on November 27 2024, the public in 37 Provinces and 508 Regencies/Cities will hold elections simultaneously,” he said.
Because with the Pilkada, it will also result in development and welfare of the community over the next 5 years.
Therefore, Tita believes that the active participation of every element of society is also very important.
