The world recognizes Jokowi’s legacy, Indonesia increasingly shows its role in international eyes

Jakarta – A number of President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) leadership successes have been recognized internationally. Starting from controlling Covid-19, the presidency of international events, economic stabilization, food crisis, security crisis, energy and financial crises to realizing infrastructure development in Indonesia.

The consistency and firmness of President Jokowi’s attitude in seeking peace and encouraging steps to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine really needs to be appreciated. In fact, President Jokowi was present directly in the conflict area and met with the two leaders of the country.

Not only the conflict in Russia and Ukraine, Indonesia’s leadership was also seen when it was appointed as the G20 Presidency in 2022 and to lead ASEAN in 2023. Indonesia is quite active in encouraging cooperation with these large countries and have economic influence. The culmination of this grand meeting of world leaders has become a momentum for Indonesia to show its role in international eyes.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong praised President Jokowi’s leadership for Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region. According to him, his vision and leadership have placed Indonesia on a strong and optimistic economic path in the future and raised ASEAN’s position, whose voice deserves to be heard and contribute to various international issues.

“In the last ten years we have achieved extraordinary progress through collaboration with President Jokowi and his team. “We have shared a commitment to deepen mutual understanding and build strong relationships,” said Lee.

Lee also believes that Indonesia-Singapore relations will continue into the next government, with Singapore led by Lawrence Wong, who is currently deputy prime minister, and Indonesia under the leadership of elected president Prabowo Subianto.

“I am happy that President Jokowi and I have passed on good bilateral relations to our successors. “And I am sure Pak Prabowo and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence will continue to take this relationship to a higher level,” he said.

He added, under President Jokowi’s leadership, Indonesia has voiced constructive messages in a divided world. This was shown when Indonesia chaired the G20 in 2022 and ASEAN in 2023.

“This has brought stability and progress to Indonesia and the entire region. “These two high-level meeting events are very important and strategic for Indonesia,” added Lee.

Regarding Palestine, some time ago President Joko Widodo received the highest award, the “Grand Collar Order of the State of Palestine”, from the Palestinian Government, which was handed over by the Special Envoy of the President of Palestine, Riyad Al Maliki.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi explained that the award was delivered directly by Special Presidential Envoy Mahmoud Abbas as a form of recognition for Indonesia’s consistent support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence.

“The Special Envoy expressed President Mahmoud Abbas’s very high appreciation to the President of the Republic of Indonesia for Indonesia’s consistent position in supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people,” said Retno.

President Mahmoud Abbas appreciated Indonesia’s important role in supporting the Palestinian people, including Indonesia’s advocacy for a ceasefire, humanitarian assistance and a two-state solution.

“Indonesia is very consistent in continuing to support the struggle of the Palestinian people. “Indonesia will also continue to advocate for a ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian assistance, and of course a two-state solution,” explained Retno.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission II DPR RI, Hugua appreciated Jokowi’s performance during his two terms of leadership. According to him, it is very natural for the world to recognize the successes that Jokowi has achieved.
