Village Electricity Program Becomes Government’s Top Priority

JAKARTA – The government continues to encourage equal access to electricity throughout the country, especially in areas that have not yet been connected.
In the Dissemination event of the National Electricity General Plan (RUKN) and the PLN Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2025-2034, the Director General of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Jisman P. Hutajulu revealed that there are still around 780 thousand households in Indonesia that do not have access to electricity.
“This shows the urgency of the program because there are still our brothers and sisters who have not been touched by electricity even though development has been massive,” said Jisman.
To answer the challenge, the government has prepared a roadmap for the Village Electricity Program (Lisdes) with a total budget requirement of around Rp50 trillion. This program targets the distribution of electricity to 5,700 villages that are currently not served by PLN.
“We want villages that have not been reached by PLN to immediately receive sustainable electricity services,” explained Jisman.
He also emphasized the importance of providing subsidies to communities in remote, frontier and outermost (3T) areas who do not yet have access to electricity.
“The government is committed to ensuring that 3T communities have access to electricity as a basis for distributing targeted subsidies,” he said.
In the future, the electrification program will be more integrated across ministries to be sustainable and effective.
“Previous programs faced sustainability challenges, but the government is now ensuring that electricity services can continue to be enjoyed by the public,” he said.
Meanwhile, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that PLN and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources have developed a more comprehensive roadmap, covering not only villages but also hamlets.
“We are now calculating based on hamlets. In total, there are 10,068 villages and hamlets included in our electrification planning,” he said during a meeting with Commission XII of the House of Representatives.
He said additional investment of around IDR 42.3 trillion was needed to achieve this target.
“President Prabowo and Minister Bahlil have expressed their full support for this program,” he stressed.
The same commitment was also emphasized by PLN Distribution Director, Adi Priyanto.
“Electricity is a primary need. Through this effort, we are here to realize the fifth principle of Pancasila: social justice for all Indonesian people,” he said.
For example, PLN through UID Kaltimra has completed the construction of electricity networks in nine villages, which now allows 275 families to enjoy sustainable electricity services.
