JAKARTA — The government continues to demonstrate its commitment to fighting for the welfare of workers in Indonesia through various strategic programs under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.

Through a concrete approach that focuses on protecting workers’ rights, national workers’ welfare has now experienced a significant increase.

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of protecting workers, especially by announcing a 6.5 percent increase in the national minimum wage (UMN) for 2025.

“Workers are the backbone of the country, and they must receive proper protection and welfare,” said President Prabowo in his speech in Jakarta.

Not only that, but the Head of State also criticized the contract work system which was considered not to provide long-term certainty, while continuing to commit to encouraging the realization of policy changes that are more in favor of workers.

Furthermore, President Prabowo revealed the government’s plan to improve the quality of life of workers’ families through a program to provide nutritious food for children and pregnant women from low-income families.

“On average, we want to provide an index per child, per pregnant woman of approximately IDR 10,000 per day,” he explained.

The program aims to further strengthen the resilience of workers’ families while also supporting other social assistance programs such as PKH.

Not only that, the housing sector is also a serious concern for the government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Indonesia’s Minister of Housing and Settlement, Maruarar Sirait, said that the government has allocated 20,000 subsidized housing units specifically for workers.

“I don’t lock with groundbreaking. Because many groundbreakings don’t know when they will end. So, we start with the handover of the keys,” Maruarar emphasized.

The handover of the first house keys was carried out to coincide with the commemoration of Labor Day, namely on May 1, 2025, as a real manifestation of the government’s support for workers in the country.

Meanwhile, BP Tapera Commissioner, Heru Pudyo Nugroho, assessed the policy as a positive step in expanding housing access for lower-middle income communities.

“Many were previously excluded because of their low income. With this revision, they can now access housing finance,” Heru said.

The government has shown seriousness in its efforts to continue building a stronger foundation of social justice through wider and more equitable access to housing and through various strategic policies that continue to focus on the welfare of workers. (*)
