The Corona Virus Pandemic (Covid-19) is still endemic in Indonesia, with the possibility that the number of cases can continue to grow. Until now researchers are still studying Corona Virus and have not found a cure .
Many news hoaks are spread on social media related to Corona Virus. Moreover, the Indonesian people are too easy to accept and spread the word that is not clear certainty , but could be the news that spread the false news or news hoaks .
Spreading hoax news clearly violates the ITE Law. The regulations governing hoax news are contained in article 28 paragraph (1) of Law Number 11 Year 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions. As amended by Act Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendment to Act Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions. The article reads:
Everyone intentionally and without right spreads false and misleading news that results in consumer losses in Electronic Transactions.
So it is clear that anyone who spreads hoax news whether they realize it or not, will still violate the rules and will get sanctions. However, there are still many Indonesians who do not know the ethics of communicating through social media. They arbitrarily spread information or news whose origin is unclear. Especially in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic . It would be very dangerous if the virus-related hoaxes are widespread in the community, especially in the red zone.
The response of the Indonesian people in relation to the Corona Virus reports is something that must be improved and educated again.
The current condition of Indonesian society is difficult to filter incoming news and it is difficult to confirm the news obtained. Therefore, education and campaigns against hoaks must continue so that the public can receive true and confirmed news. At the very least, we educate our immediate family, parents and siblings. New friends around and the community. Reminding each other is one of the keys to breaking the hoax news distribution.
As millennials , we have to be wise in responding to information circulating about Covid-19 and still have strong optimism so that the Covid-19 pandemic can be hacked immediately . Start creating preventive prevention from yourself by building smart and positive paradigms that benefit the community.
Let’s compete with each other to do good by not creating unrest. The Indonesian people love mutual cooperation and peace. Then make peace with eradicating hoaxes and false news.
