Collaboration to Prevent Potential Violations in the 2024 Regional Elections

Every regional head election (Pilkada) is not free from challenges, including potential violations that could threaten the integrity of this democratic process. Collaboration between various parties is very necessary to ensure that the regional elections run smoothly, fairly and are free from violations.

A number of potential violations that could occur in the 2024 regional elections are money politics , manipulation of voter data, intimidation and violence, and the spread of false information.

To maintain the dignity and integrity of the 2024 Pilkada, various parties need to work together, such as the General Election Commission (KPU), the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), security forces (Polri and TNI), political parties and candidates, mass media, civil society and NGOs, and general public.

Bawaslu Commissioner for the Legal, Prevention, Community Participation and Public Relations Division, Wahyudin, said that all supervisors down to the village level had dedicated themselves to maintaining the dignity of the Pilkada to be more dignified.

Bawaslu reminded ASN, Village Heads and high-ranking regional officials not to violate the rules that have been set. There are penalties for violations committed.

At the Voter Data Updating (coklit) stage, Bawaslu has opened a complaints post. People who already have the right to vote, if they have not registered or are not registered by the Voter Update Officer (Pantarlih), must report it to their party.

The Dompu Regency Bawaslu, Panwascam, and PKD throughout Dompu Regency continue to be committed to overseeing the entire process of updating and compiling the voter list for the 2024 Election. This is intended to ensure that citizens’ voting rights are maintained until voting day.

Residents who experience problems or find violations during the stages of updating and compiling the voter list can report it to the Voting Rights Monitoring Post opened by the nearest Panwascam or Bawaslu of Dompu Regency. Complaints can be submitted directly, via social media, or via the nearest Panwascam hotline. 

Preparations for the 2024 Regional Elections are also being carried out at the Temanggung District Prosecutor’s Office by carrying out Legal Information. The activity, which collaborated with the Temanggung Regency Government, KPU and Bawaslu, was carried out at the Bhakti Praja Loka, Temanggung Regional Secretariat Complex.

Present at the activity was Pj. Regent Hary Agung Prabowo, Kajari Temanggung Nilma, Acting. Regional Secretary Agus Sujarwo, Chairman of the Temanggung KPU Henry Sofyan Rois, Chairman of the Temanggung Bawaslu Roni Nefriyadi, and others.

The information activity took the theme “Preventive Efforts Against Potential Criminal Violations in the Election of Governor-Deputy Governor, Election of Regent-Deputy Regent in Temanggung Regency”. 

Head of the Temanggung District Prosecutor’s Office (Kajari), Nilma, again reminded the neutrality of ASN ranks, especially in the atmosphere of the 2024 regional elections. Apart from that, Nilma also advised village heads to enforce clean regional elections. Neutrality is very necessary so there is a need to educate the public about clean regional elections.

Acting Regent Hary Agung Prabowo, in his direction, conveyed the importance of educating the public regarding this Pilkada. The education provided to the community must be high, including that the Village Head provides education to the community, how to minimize money politics, and not intimidate voters. Let people be free to exercise their voting rights.

Hary also emphasized that every stakeholder in the Pilkada can work together in synergy. Synergy with the stakeholders here is very important, in the context of preventive efforts that we will carry out, in the future it will be even better.

Head of the Legal and Supervision Division of the Palu City KPU, Haris Lawisi said that the technical guidance activity for mitigating potential violations in the 2024 Pilkada aims to ensure that the risk of violations can be minimized or even non-existent, by increasing the adhoc body’s knowledge of potential administrative, criminal, code of ethics and violations. other laws. The resource person from the District Prosecutor’s Office was represented by Inti Astutik as Kasi Pidum. 

His party stated that the vulnerability of electoral criminal acts includes, among others; money politics, voting more than once and/or claiming to be someone else, taking actions that benefit or harm one of the candidate pairs.

It was also explained that criminal vulnerability also occurs if it causes voters’ votes to have no value or the votes of regional election participants to increase or decrease, causing the loss and change of recapitulation minutes, black campaigning, campaigning in places of worship, slandering, inciting, insulting.

Serang Regency Bawaslu member, Ari Setiawan conveyed several important points regarding efforts to prevent election violations in the 2024 Serang Regency Regional Head Election (Pilkada).

The potential for money politics is also in the spotlight. Ari emphasized that the big challenge in elections is to prevent people from getting trapped in this practice. Money politics is still a big challenge for society.

Collaboration between all the parties above is very important to create a conducive Pilkada atmosphere. Several collaborative steps that can be taken include education and outreach, increased supervision, information technology, as well as dialogue and cooperation.

With good cooperation between all parties, it is hoped that the 2024 Pilkada can be successful, maintain the dignity of democracy, and produce trustworthy and quality leaders.
