Ahead of the inauguration of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, various efforts have been made to ensure a conducive situation throughout Indonesia. The inauguration, scheduled for October 20, 2024, is expected to run smoothly and peacefully, reflecting the spirit of national unity.

As an initial step, the police and TNI and other security agencies have increased surveillance at several strategic points throughout Indonesia. The Chief of Police has issued special instructions to all his staff to prepare for the security of the inauguration. The addition of security personnel in public areas, especially in Jakarta, is a top priority.

In addition, communication between security forces and the community is also strengthened. Through various forums, the community is invited to play an active role in maintaining a conducive situation. The TNI Headquarters is preparing to carry out a special VVIP security operation for the inauguration of the President and Vice President-elect, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, which will take place from 16 to 23 October 2024. The Head of the TNI Information Center, Major General Hariyanto, said that this operation aims to ensure the smooth running of the inauguration ceremony at the DPR/MPR RI Building on 20 October.

Preparations include the placement of personnel and materials and the division of tasks, with plans to deploy personnel at the Monas Cross Field, Central Jakarta. In addition, a Tactical Floor Game (TFG) will be held as a dress rehearsal for officials and invited guests from foreign countries, as well as securing the plenary session of the MPR RI until the event is over.

The inauguration schedule has been set by the KPU in the 2022 General Election Commission Regulation (PKPU), which states that the swearing-in of the President and Vice President of 2024 will be held on October 20, 2024 at the MPR/DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta.

Army Chief of Staff, General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, said that the TNI has not detected any waves or movements that have the potential to create unfavorable conditions related to the inauguration. However, readiness is still being implemented as an anticipatory step to maintain conducive conditions ahead of the inauguration of the elected president.

Additional security personnel will be considered if there is an increase in public euphoria ahead of the inauguration. The Indonesian Army will anticipate the situation professionally, by preparing security consisting of Paspampres, as well as the arrangement of ring one, ring two, and ring three.

The security of the presidential inauguration will be carried out normally as in the previous period. However, if there is an escalation of movements that have the potential to disrupt the inauguration, additional personnel from the three branches of the TNI, namely the Army, Navy, and Air Force, will be implemented.

General Maruli added that securing the presidential inauguration is routine and has become part of the TNI’s experience in securing similar events in the past. Regarding Prabowo and Gibran’s convoy after the inauguration, further information is not yet available, considering that both will have a busy agenda after being inaugurated by the MPR, including sessions and meetings with guests at the Presidential Palace.

President Joko Widodo instructed security forces to actively maintain stability, considering that the transition period is often a crucial point in national politics. The coordinator of Melayu Raya Tanjungpinang, Arie Sunandar, who is also a member of the Tanjungpinang DPRD, emphasized the importance of vigilance against potential disturbances that could damage the atmosphere, especially in the Riau Islands region which borders Singapore and Malaysia.
