The government continues to strengthen health sector development by expanding the Free Health Check Program (CKG) as a strategic step to create superior human resources towards a more advanced Indonesia. This program not only demonstrates the state’s presence in providing accessible health services to the public, but also serves as a crucial foundation for building a healthy lifestyle and raising public awareness of the importance of early disease detection.
Amid increasingly complex public health challenges, a preventive approach is urgently needed. Currently, many people visit health facilities when their illnesses are already at an advanced stage, making treatment more difficult and costly. Therefore, the government is encouraging a paradigm shift in healthcare services, from focusing on treatment to prevention and early detection.
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized that regular health check-ups are crucial in preventing diseases from developing into more serious stages. The government even targets that by 2026, the public will not only receive free health check-ups but also have access to optimal treatment and prevention. According to him, the main goal of this program is to ensure that the community is truly healthy, not just undergoing checkups.
This demonstrates that the CKG is not merely an administrative program or ceremonial activity, but rather a long-term investment to maintain community productivity. Health is the primary capital in building the quality of human resources. Without a healthy community, economic development, education, and national productivity will struggle to progress optimally.
The CKG program is now being strengthened more broadly through the involvement of various sectors, from health facilities and schools to the workplace. This step is crucial because access to health checkups must be closer to people’s daily lives. The presence of services in schools, for example, allows for early detection of health problems in children from an early age. Meanwhile, health checkups in the workplace can help maintain workforce productivity and prevent chronic diseases that could potentially disrupt economic activity.
Furthermore, early detection is a crucial step in a modern healthcare system. The sooner a disease is detected, the greater the chance of recovery and the lower the risk of complications. In addition to reducing patient suffering, preventive measures can also reduce medical costs, which have historically been a significant burden on both the community and the government.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, assessed that the government is currently pushing for a shift in the national health paradigm from curative to preventive. He stated that the public needs to be accustomed to undergoing regular health check-ups so that potential diseases can be detected early and treated before they become more severe.
Changes in lifestyle, lack of physical activity, unhealthy diets, and low awareness of routine check-ups are factors that increase the risk of public health problems. In situations like this, education and regular health check-ups are an integral part of national health development.
The CKG program also demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that screening results do not stop at the data collection stage alone. The government ensures that individuals detected with health problems will receive assistance and medical treatment as needed. This approach is crucial for the program to truly have a tangible impact on improving the quality of public health.
The Director General of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, Maria Endang Sumiwi, revealed that program evaluation results still found high cases of hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and dental health problems across various age groups. This fact serves as a reminder that Indonesia’s public health challenges remain significant and require the involvement of all elements of the nation.
The high number of cases of these diseases demonstrates that the culture of regular health checkups still needs to be strengthened. Many people have not yet prioritized health checkups. Some even believe that checkups are only necessary when the body is experiencing serious symptoms. In fact, regular checkups aim to detect disease risks before symptoms appear.
Therefore, strengthening health education must go hand in hand with the expansion of CKG services. Public awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, regular checkups, and early detection needs to be continuously increased so that efforts to prevent and control diseases can be effective. Preventive measures can be effective. In the long term, a healthy lifestyle will produce a more productive, high-quality, and highly competitive society.
The government’s move to expand the CKG Program deserves appreciation as a major investment in the nation’s future. The development of superior human resources is not only determined by the quality of education and economic capacity, but is also greatly influenced by public health conditions. A healthy generation will have higher productivity, better learning abilities, and a more optimal quality of life.
By strengthening preventive health services, the government is building a strong foundation for a healthier and more competitive Indonesia. The CKG Program is proof that health is not just an individual matter, but a strategic investment for the nation to create a more advanced, productive, and sustainable future.
