Jakarta, CIDISS – Drug problems in Indonesia has entered the phase of emergency. Emergency status and the issue is not just rhetoric, but a factual threat that still be seen by one eye. With the fourth biggest population in the world, Indonesia become the lucrative market for drug traffickers. Up to 2015 the prevalence of drug users is estimated to reach 4.1 million people (2.2%). Meanwhile, more or less material losses amounting to 63 trillion rupiah, which includes losses due to drug expenditures, medical expenses, items stolen and the cost of rehabilitation.

This condition created by a variety of interrelated factors. Legislation we talk about drugs is still not complete, but with the Law No. 35/2009 about drugs, Government has a complete “weapons” to prevent the spread of drugs. Issues that arise are always a classic that is how the legal apparatus? In fact, in many cases of narcotics were sticking to the surface, even the law enforcement agencies involved. We have heard from the police, prosecutors to prison officers can play a role of removing, lighten up frees users to drug traffickers. Lately, police, military, and police arrested at Perumahan Kostrad, Tanah Kusir, South Jakarta. It’s not just law enforcement factors, but fundamentally this factor into climate creates a powerful indicator of potential drug market in this country.

How to handle it, it seems difficult, like unravel. Because that required the participation of all layers to prevent the circulation of illicit goods in the life of our society. The war against drugs is not done on a seasonal basis, but it must be sustainable. There are three steps you can take to against drugs. First, intensifying drug abuse prevention measures, from the center to the regions, scalable and sustainable. Second, increasing efforts therapy and rehabilitation of addicts and victims of drug abuse. And third, the courage of law enforcement officers.

In addition, support is also needed for the mass media to disseminate the dangers of drug abuse and its prevention to the general public. Important information regarding the handling of drugs expected more quickly spread and on target. The support of the mass media to campaign P4GN efforts namely prevention, eradication, drug abuse and illicit quickly realized.

In addition, public support for campaign against drugs needed by writings which provides important information about the dangers of drugs and how to follow-up to save the nation against the snare of drugs. By empowering the community, the information about handling of the drug problem directly into in the community. Do we let the generation of people poisoned by these illicit goods. Let’s do it, scatter kindness through attitudes and actions in the fight against drugs in order to free our nation from its circulation. [LP]
