TNI-Polri Strengthen Security in Papua, Public Urged to Be Wary of Hoaxes

CENTRAL PAPUA – Security stability in Papua continues to be strengthened through synergy between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to ensure that the public can carry out their activities safely and comfortably. This measure was taken following increasing security disturbances in several areas of Central Papua, which have the potential to hamper social activities and regional development.

Security operations carried out by the Joint Regional Defense Command (Kogabwilhan) III and Koops Habema have successfully restricted the movement of armed groups that have been disrupting regional stability. Joint TNI personnel are said to have successfully secured various combat equipment and taken action against several members of separatist groups in several areas.

Kogabwilhan III Commander, Lieutenant General Lucky Avianto, emphasized that the security operations are being carried out to protect civilians and ensure the continuity of development in Papua. “What we want to ensure is that the public can carry out their daily activities safely, children can go to school in peace, and development in Papua continues,” he said.

According to Lucky, all security operations were carried out professionally and meticulously, while upholding the Rules of Engagement (ROE), law, human rights, and humanitarian values. He added that public safety remains the top priority for officers in the field.

In addition to strengthening TNI operations, the Central Papua Regional Police (Polda) have also increased security along several strategic routes, including the Dogiyai-Paniai section, which serves as a vital access point for public activities. This measure was taken to ensure the safety and smooth mobility of residents.

Central Papua Regional Police Chief, Brigadier General Jermias Rontini, stated that security forces continue to conduct intensive patrols and surveillance to maintain a conducive situation. “Currently, our officers are conducting security and conducting further investigations to ensure the situation at the location remains safe and under control,” he said.

Furthermore, the public is also urged to be more vigilant against the spread of hoaxes and provocative information on social media. The Head of Information for the TNI Habema Operations Command, Lieutenant Colonel M. Wirya Arthadiguna, emphasized that the public needs to be wise in receiving information regarding the security situation in Papua.

“Synergy between security forces and the community is crucial for maintaining peace and stability in Papua,” he said.

The security reinforcements implemented by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) have received support from various elements of society, as they are seen as capable of creating a sense of security while ensuring sustainable development in Papua.
