The government has once again demonstrated a swift and measured response to global economic dynamics by launching an economic stimulus package worth Rp 26.34 trillion for the second half of 2026. The policy, announced on June 22, 2026, demonstrates the country’s commitment to maintaining the momentum of national economic growth and maintaining a positive trajectory.
The global economy is currently still overshadowed by various risks that could impact the economic stability of developing countries. Fluctuating commodity prices, geopolitical tensions, and changes in economic policies in various countries are factors that need to be anticipated. In such situations, stimulus policies are a crucial instrument for maintaining domestic economic growth and serving as a key pillar of national growth.
President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of anticipatory measures in addressing various global economic risks. This approach is reflected in the stimulus package, which focuses not only on protecting the public but also on strengthening the productive sector and the business world. This policy demonstrates that economic development focuses not only on statistical growth but also on directly safeguarding people’s well-being.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto explained that this stimulus package is designed to strengthen public purchasing power, support business activity, and maintain national economic optimism in the second half of 2026. This measure is crucial because domestic consumption remains a key driver of Indonesia’s economic growth. Maintaining public purchasing power will encourage more dynamic economic activity, creating a ripple effect across various sectors.
One of the most compelling aspects of this stimulus package is its comprehensive policies, which reach across all segments of society. The government is offering transportation incentives during school holidays and the Christmas and New Year period. Discounts on train tickets, ships, and domestic flights are expected to encourage public mobility while boosting the tourism and trade sectors. These policies not only provide direct benefits to the public but also help maintain economic activity in various regions.
In addition to encouraging consumption, the government is also focusing on human resource development through national internship programs and vocational training. The substantial budget allocations for these two programs demonstrate that economic development is inseparable from improving the quality of the workforce. The internship program, targeting 150,000 participants, and vocational training for vocational high school graduates and workers affected by layoffs are crucial investments in improving the competitiveness of the Indonesian workforce.
This step demonstrates that the government is not solely focused on short-term solutions but also on building a stronger economic foundation for the future. When the workforce has skills that match industry needs, economic productivity will increase and new job opportunities can be created. This approach is part of a more sustainable development strategy.
The stimulus package also provides support to the industrial sector through various fiscal incentives. Exemptions from import duties for certain needs in the petrochemical sector, plastic raw materials, and other industrial components aim to improve production cost efficiency. This policy is expected to maintain the competitiveness of the national industry while encouraging domestic investment and production.
In the context of social protection, the government has extended its rice food assistance program to more than 33 million beneficiaries. This step demonstrates the government’s concern for vulnerable groups facing economic pressures. Food aid not only helps maintain purchasing power but also contributes to overall social and economic stability.
Furthermore, the government is also providing support to tofu and tempeh producers through a soybean price and supply stabilization program. This policy is crucial because micro and small businesses operating in the food sector play a significant role in meeting the community’s needs and creating jobs. By maintaining stable raw material prices, the government helps ensure the sustainability of community businesses in this sector.
The second-half 2026 stimulus package demonstrates a balanced approach between social protection, strengthening the real sector, and improving the quality of human resources. This policy combination is crucial because strong economic growth requires simultaneous support from various sectors. The government is not only maintaining public consumption but also strengthening the foundations of production and investment.
Amid global uncertainty, optimism is a crucial asset for the national economy. Public and business confidence in the direction of government policies will help maintain economic activity. This stimulus package signals that the government has a clear and responsive strategy to address emerging economic challenges.
The launch of the economic stimulus package for the second half of 2026 demonstrates the government’s continued efforts to maintain growth momentum amidst various global challenges. Policies addressing consumption, industry, employment, and social protection demonstrate a comprehensive approach to managing the national economy. With synergy between the government, the business sector, and the public, optimism for Indonesia’s economic growth remains strong and serves as a crucial foundation for continuing inclusive and sustainable development.
