The economy in the second half of the year will be boosted by stimulus, with the government focusing on maintaining purchasing power.

Jakarta – The government continues to prepare various strategic measures to maintain public purchasing power while simultaneously boosting national economic growth in the second half of 2026. Amidst the challenges of global economic uncertainty, the government has chosen to strengthen domestic consumption through shopping discount programs, trade sector incentives, and fiscal, food, and transportation stimulus measures, which will be announced soon.

These efforts are part of the government’s strategy to maintain the momentum of national economic growth, which has been supported by household consumption. With increasing external pressures due to the global economic slowdown, strengthening domestic demand is considered a crucial step to maintain economic activity and provide the business sector with room to grow.

Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the government has prepared a number of programs that will run from June to August 2026. One of the flagship programs is the implementation of shopping discounts in modern retail through the BINA and Back to School programs involving hundreds of department stores and tens of thousands of retail outlets in various regions.

“We’re doing a lot of activities. For example, in June and July, we’re offering discounts at modern retail outlets under the names BINA and Back to School. This July and July, it involves around 414 department stores, with around 80,000 outlets, all members of Hippindo. Transactions are expected to reach around Rp30 trillion,” said Budi Santoso.

According to him, the government is also striving to strengthen public consumption through the use of digital trading platforms and e-commerce. This measure is expected to maintain national economic activity while expanding public access to various necessities at more affordable prices.

In addition to shopping discount programs, the government is also preparing various economic activities to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence in August. These various activities are expected to boost trade, tourism, and public consumption in various regions.

Budi added that the government will soon announce an economic stimulus package for the second half of 2026, which will cover several strategic sectors.

“Then, in the near future, we will announce the economic stimulus for the second half of 2026, specifically regarding fiscal, food, and transportation stimulus, which will likely be announced after this,” he concluded.

The stimulus package is expected to maintain public purchasing power, strengthen household consumption, and support the national economic growth target for the second half of this year. With a combination of fiscal policy and consumption-boosting programs, the government is optimistic that the Indonesian economy will remain resilient and grow amidst the challenging dynamics of the global economy.
