The government’s stimulus package is considered a crucial buffer against global pressures.

Jakarta — The government’s second-half 2026 economic stimulus package is considered a crucial buffer for maintaining national economic resilience amidst increasing global pressures. Geopolitical uncertainty, the global economic slowdown, and fluctuating food and energy prices remain challenges that could potentially impact the domestic economy.
To maintain growth momentum and public purchasing power, the government has prepared a stimulus package worth approximately IDR 7.8 trillion, encompassing 10 main programs. The policy is designed to strengthen domestic consumption as a key driver of national economic growth while maintaining public and business optimism.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the stimulus package is aimed at encouraging public consumption and maintaining economic activity in the second half of 2026.
“This stimulus is aimed at maintaining public purchasing power, increasing domestic consumption, and supporting national economic growth,” Airlangga said.
The stimulus package covers various sectors, from transportation and taxation to human resource development and support for national industry. Some of the programs prepared include transportation fare discounts during school holidays and the end of the year, tax incentives for writers, a national internship program, a vocational program, and several fiscal incentives to support public economic activity.
According to Susiwijono Moegiarso, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, strengthening domestic demand is the government’s primary focus in formulating the stimulus package. Therefore, various policies that encourage household consumption and public mobility are being continuously strengthened.
“The usual ones involve fiscal incentives. Food aid is a given. This means strengthening demand from the demand side. On the supply side, there are some VAT DTP (Value-Based Tax) measures,” he said.
In addition to maintaining purchasing power, the government is also focusing on increasing public mobility through transportation fare discounts. This policy is expected to stimulate economic activity in various regions, particularly during the holiday period, which typically drives public consumption.
The stimulus package is considered relevant as an anticipatory measure to address global economic pressures. Through a combination of fiscal incentives, social assistance, transportation support, and strengthening human resource quality, the government is striving to maintain national economic stability while sustaining economic growth momentum in the second half of 2026.
