Equitable development is one of the government’s top priorities in realizing equitable economic growth. Amidst persistent disparities between urban and rural areas, the government continues to introduce various programs designed to strengthen economic activity at the village level.
One of the strategic steps that is currently attracting national attention is the development of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative as an instrument for driving the people’s economy.
The Merah Putih Village Cooperative serves a broader purpose than conventional cooperatives. This program is designed to be a hub for community economic activity, connecting village potential with various business opportunities, financing, distribution, and local resource development.
The government views strengthening the village economy as a crucial foundation for sustainable national growth. When rural communities have better access to productive economic activities, prosperity will increase and development disparities can be gradually reduced. Therefore, cooperative development is positioned as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the national economy from the grassroots level.
The government’s commitment to implementing this program is evident in its ongoing efforts to improve governance. Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming emphasized that the government is improving the governance of various priority programs, including the Merah Putih Village Cooperative. He stated that these improvements are being made to ensure program implementation is more targeted, effective, and efficient, and provides optimal benefits to the community.
Gibran also believes that good governance is a crucial factor in maintaining public trust in government programs. In addition to strengthening accountability, this measure is believed to increase market confidence in the national economic situation. With improved management, village development programs are expected to have a greater economic impact.
The Red and White Village Cooperative has begun to show positive developments in various regions. Kampar Regency in Riau Province is one example of accelerated program implementation, which is on track. The local government and the central government continue to collaborate to ensure the cooperative’s development is completed on time.
Acting Governor of Riau, SF Hariyanto, stated that the construction of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative in Kampar Regency is showing encouraging progress. Of the planned 250 cooperative units, dozens have been completed and are ready to enter the next phase.
The support of the Kampar Regency Government is one factor accelerating the development of cooperatives in the region. The provision of land by the local government allows the development process to proceed more smoothly, allowing the set targets to be achieved in stages.
The Merah Putih Village Cooperative has a much broader role than simply a business entity. It is projected to become a center for economic empowerment, helping communities develop productive businesses, expand market access, and increase the added value of various local commodities.
Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, believes cooperatives have a strategic position in supporting the sustainable development agenda. He believes cooperatives can be an instrument for managing resources productively, fairly, and sustainably, while strengthening community participation in national economic development.
Ferry also emphasized that cooperatives have significant potential to support the development of a green economy. Through a business model based on community and sustainability, cooperatives can contribute to economic growth that is not only financially profitable but also environmentally conscious.
The Ministry of Cooperatives is currently promoting the development of renewable energy-based cooperatives in various regions. This initiative aims to create village economic independence while expanding community access to more efficient and sustainable energy sources.
Renewable energy development initiatives demonstrate that cooperatives can be part of the development solution in areas still facing limited infrastructure. The use of solar energy in several areas exemplifies how cooperatives can play a role in improving the quality of life for communities while stimulating local economic activity.
The development of cooperatives integrated with various empowerment programs provides greater opportunities for rural communities to develop. The presence of cooperatives allows small businesses to receive better support in accessing capital, technology, and markets.
The challenges facing village development remain significant. Strengthening human resource capacity, increasing the use of technology, and cross-sectoral coordination are agenda items that must be continuously strengthened. However, the various steps taken by the government demonstrate a strong commitment to ensuring that every village has an equal opportunity to benefit from development.
The success of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative will be a crucial foundation for achieving more equitable prosperity throughout Indonesia. With the support of improved governance, synergy between the central and regional governments, and active community participation, village cooperatives have the potential to become a driving force for development, strengthening the people’s economy and accelerating the equitable distribution of national prosperity.
