From Cities to Remote Areas: A Mission for Quality Health through CKG

By: Ricky Rinaldi

Equitable distribution of health services is a key focus of the government in strengthening the quality of Indonesia’s human resources. Amidst efforts to expand access to services in remote and isolated areas, the Free Health Check Program (CKG) is a strategic step to ensure that people can receive easy, free, and high-quality health checks. This program not only expands the reach of health services but also raises public awareness of the importance of maintaining health from an early age to create a healthier and more productive society.

Health is a basic need that determines people’s quality of life. Without good health, community productivity will decline and human resource development will be difficult to achieve optimally. Therefore, the state has a responsibility to ensure that every citizen has access to adequate and affordable health services.

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that health development must reach all levels of society equally. Health services should not be concentrated only in large cities, while people in remote areas face limited access. Within this framework, CKG is part of the state’s efforts to provide tangible public health services.

The CKG program is designed to strengthen the preventive approach within the national health system. Currently, people often only seek medical check-ups when their health has already developed into a more serious condition. Through free health check-ups, people are encouraged to recognize their health conditions early and take preventive measures before the disease progresses.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized that strengthening primary health care services is key to improving the quality of national health care. Regular health check-ups enable early detection of various diseases, allowing for faster and more effective treatment. This approach also helps reduce the long-term burden of healthcare costs.

The CKG program is not only focused on urban centers but is also aimed at reaching remote areas. The government is strengthening coordination with regional health facilities to ensure services reach a wider community. The presence of health workers on the ground is a crucial factor in ensuring the program’s effectiveness at the community level.

For people in remote areas, access to healthcare is often hampered by distance, limited facilities, and a lack of medical personnel. The CKG program seeks to address these challenges through a more active and direct approach to the community. With closer services, people have a greater opportunity to receive proper healthcare check-ups.

In addition to improving access to services, the CKG also serves an educational function. Health checks serve as a gateway to raising public awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Education about nutrition, environmental hygiene, physical activity, and disease prevention is a crucial part of supporting overall public health.

This program also demonstrates the importance of cross-sector collaboration in health development. The central government, local governments, health facilities, and the community each have a role to play in supporting the program’s success. This collaborative approach enables more effective health services and reaches a wider range of community groups.

In the long term, the preventive approach through the CKG is a crucial step in building a more sustainable health system. Focusing on prevention will help reduce the risk of chronic disease and improve the community’s quality of life. This is crucial amidst increasing health challenges caused by lifestyle changes and environmental dynamics.

Consistent monitoring and evaluation are crucial steps in strengthening the success of the CKG Program. Through these efforts, the government continues to ensure the quality of health services is maintained while expanding equitable access to services across all regions. Strengthening health workers, supporting facilities, and data collection systems are also continuously optimized to ensure the program is more effective, targeted, and provides sustainable benefits.

Community participation is also a determining factor in the success of the CKG. Awareness of the need for regular health check-ups will help foster a culture of healthy living within the community. When the community actively utilizes preventive health services, the program’s impact will be greater and more sustainable.

Strengthening health services down to the primary level the region also represents a strategic step in reducing disparities in quality of life between regions. When access to healthcare is more equitable, people have equal opportunities to live healthy and productive lives. With an inclusive approach, health development can become a strong foundation for creating more equitable national prosperity.

In addition to supporting individual health, CKG also helps strengthen collective public health resilience. Early disease detection allows for faster treatment, thus minimizing the risk of spreading certain diseases. The mission of providing quality healthcare from cities to remote areas is part of the effort to build a stronger and more equitable Indonesia. CKG demonstrates that healthcare is not only about treatment, but also about prevention, education, and equitable access. With an inclusive and sustainable approach, this program is a crucial foundation for improving the quality of life of the Indonesian people as a whole.
