Illegal gold mining in Palangka Raya

CIDISS – Mine is one of the triggers for economic increase in society. Many residents rely of mine, such gold. But, the existence of the mine makes nature problems, such as water contamination, forest damage, etc.

Like happen in the Rungan River, Bukit Batu district, Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan Province, many residents do the illegal mines of that area. Many citizen is made worry because of that activity.

A number of citizens in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan province complained by the existence of an illegal gold mine excavation which began in the area. Vina, citizen of Bukit district, Palangka Raya, as in AntaraKalteng.com said she complained about the illegal mine.

“Almost two months this illegal gold mining excavation activities in the area of Rungan River, Bukit Batu district began occurs in the absence of unequivocal action from law enforcement, so we locals fear the occurrence of environmental damage to land degradation,” she said.

She argued that such activities were left unimpressed by the apparatus of law enforcement, so that the activities of the illegal gold mining excavation until now continues without any attention to natural ecosystems damage and the health of local residents. It is because the illegal gold mining excavation in Rungan River does not have letter permission from legal board.

Vina said the waster is produced by mine is very dangerous, because also mix with the mercury.

Moreover, information in the field, there are less and more 32 mining tools in the Rungan River and all of them has been operated.

Perceive this case the head of Bukit Batu district, Titing said that there are reports from citizen about the existence the illegal mining.

“we will coordinate to legal board to finish the case soon,” said titing

Titing said that Mayor of Palangka Raya has been order to record all of the illegal mining in that area.
