Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the spirit of reform by pushing for comprehensive improvements in state institutions, including strengthening reforms within the National Police (Polri). This step is being taken as an effort to strengthen clean and professional governance and accelerate the eradication of corruption and the misappropriation of state assets.
Special Advisor to the President for Security and Public Order and Police Reform, Ahmad Dofiri, stated that the President wants reforms not only to be implemented in one institution, but to encompass all state institutions to make them more effective, transparent, and accountable.
“The President has conveyed that he wants all institutions to be reformed,” said Ahmad Dofiri.
According to Dofiri, reform should begin with the National Police (Polri) because this institution is one of the institutions that receives the most public attention. In addition to its strategic function in law enforcement, the National Police also plays a crucial role in maintaining national security and supporting the success of the government’s priority programs.
“Therefore, the President said, ‘Okay, let’s start with the National Police,'” Dofiri explained.
The President also places significant emphasis on the eradication of corruption and the misappropriation of state assets. The government believes that the success of the national development agenda requires law enforcement officers who are professional, possess integrity, and are able to maintain public trust.
“That’s why the National Police (Polri) are important as law enforcement officers, because they are closely related to that,” Dofiri continued.
Meanwhile, KPRP Chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie stated that the President had accepted a number of reform recommendations put forward by the commission. One point that received the President’s support was strengthening the National Police Commission to ensure a stronger and more independent oversight function.
“The President strongly approves of strengthening the National Police Commission so that its decisions and recommendations are binding,” Jimly said.
The reform measures pushed by President Prabowo are considered a strategic effort to build state institutions that are increasingly professional, transparent, and capable of meeting the challenges of future national development.****
