JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto continues to strengthen the national food security agenda by accelerating the downstreaming of the livestock sector, one of which is through the development of the Integrated Chicken Downstreaming Project (HAT). This program is aimed at increasing the availability of domestic animal protein.
This strategic step was discussed in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held in Jakarta, involving government officials, academics, research institutions, and national livestock industry players. This forum serves as a platform for cross-sector consolidation in formulating the direction for the development of a modern, independent, and globally competitive integrated chicken industry.
The HAT Project has been designated as a national priority program under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture. This program is designed to build an integrated livestock ecosystem from upstream to downstream, from breeding and feeding, production, to distribution and processing.
The President Director of PT Berdikari, Maryadi, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in accelerating the program’s implementation. “We are open to collaborative innovations to create or design the Integrated Chicken Downstreaming project to achieve our shared hopes,” he said. He added that synergy between the government, corporations, academics, and smallholder farmers is key to creating applicable innovations.
According to Maryadi, the involvement of all stakeholders will strengthen national food self-sufficiency while improving the welfare of livestock farmers. “As a corporation, we are pleased to be able to help the community, especially smallholder farmers, and the state, so that we can collaborate with all existing stakeholders,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that smallholder farmers remain a top priority in the development of the national poultry industry. The Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Agung Suganda, stated that every investment must provide tangible benefits to domestic farmers. “The government ensures that poultry investment must strengthen national production, create jobs, and maintain food security,” he said.
Agung added that development of the livestock subsector is carried out through strengthening national partnerships involving smallholder farmers, cooperatives, local businesses, and state-owned enterprises in the food sector. “The national poultry ecosystem must be built equitably by involving all elements,” he said.
With an integrated downstream approach, the government is optimistic that the national poultry industry can become more efficient, competitive, and capable of supporting sustainable food security in Indonesia. This program can also strengthen the domestic food supply chain while increasing the added value of the national economy.
