Red and White Fishermen’s Village Becomes Part of Prabowo’s Blue Economy Strategy

Jakarta — The government continues to strengthen the development of the maritime and fisheries sector through the Red and White Fishermen’s Village (KNMP) program as part of the national blue economy strategy. The program aims to improve the welfare of coastal communities, strengthen seafood security, and encourage sustainable maritime economic growth.

The development of the KNMP is a concrete step by the government to organize coastal areas to be more productive, modern, and integrated with the national economic system. This program includes the construction and revitalization of facilities supporting fishing activities, from boat docks and fish auction sites to access to seafood distribution.

The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, explained that under the Red and White Fishermen’s Village program, his ministry not only builds and provides facilities but also provides mentoring and skills development to fishing communities.

“Beyond providing facilities, this support is important so that fishermen can operate and maintain the facilities they have built so they can be used sustainably,” said Minister Trenggono.

This step is expected to open new economic opportunities for fishing families while increasing the added value of the national fisheries sector.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the government’s commitment to developing the maritime and fisheries sector on a large scale by strengthening the blue economy during a visit to the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village in South Leato Village, Gorontalo City.

The Head of State described Indonesia’s marine potential as a great gift that must be managed to improve the welfare of coastal communities and strengthen national economic sovereignty.

“Therefore, the government I lead will massively develop fisheries and maritime affairs. Our current term is the blue economy, the blue sea economy, the blue ocean economy. This blue ocean economy is very important, it is a gift from the Almighty, we must be grateful, and we must invest massively now,” said President Prabowo.

Furthermore, President Prabowo emphasized that strengthening the maritime sector is a crucial part of building national independence and strengthening the role of fishermen as key actors in the maritime economy.

“We are highly respected because we are now self-sufficient in food, rice, corn, and many other things. We no longer need to import food from abroad, and fishermen have rendered significant contributions. We want to strengthen their role,” he added.
