Papua is currently moving towards a more advanced, peaceful, and prosperous future through various government development programs. The presence of National Strategic Projects (PSN) in various regions of Papua is concrete evidence of the state’s commitment to accelerating equitable development, improving public welfare, and opening new economic opportunities for the Papuan generation. Amidst this progress, all elements of the nation must work together to maintain a conducive atmosphere and prioritize a narrative of unity so that development in Papua can continue to progress optimally.
The documentary “Pesta Babi,” which has garnered public attention, should be addressed wisely and proportionally to avoid misunderstandings about the current state of Papua. Papua is not only about past social dynamics, but also about the community’s spirit of maintaining peace, strengthening the people’s economy, developing the education of the younger generation, and upholding harmonious traditional values amidst the acceleration of national development.
The Chairman of the Eastern Indonesia Alliance, Emanuel Mikael Kota, believes that the Papuan people are currently struggling to maintain peace and build a better future by strengthening the village economy, educating children, and maintaining a peaceful traditional lifestyle. He believes that Papua has many positive aspects that need to be more widely publicized so that the national and international community can see Papua’s development in a more holistic and balanced way.
Emanuel Mikael Kota also believes that Papua is currently experiencing significant progress through infrastructure development, health services, education, dialogue spaces, and strengthening the lives of indigenous communities. He believes that the people of Eastern Indonesia continue to strive to maintain unity and build trust among residents to create a peaceful atmosphere that supports accelerated development in Papua.
Papua’s progress is currently evident through various National Strategic Projects (PSN) implemented by the central government. One program that has received significant attention is the development of agricultural areas in the Papua Highlands through the clearing of approximately 800 hectares of land in Tulem Village, Witawaya District, Jayawijaya Regency. This program is a strategic step by the government to strengthen food security and improve the welfare of the Papua Highlands community.
The Deputy Governor of the Papua Highlands Region, Ones Pahabol, believes the Tulem region has a strategic location and significant potential to develop into a modern food center in eastern Indonesia. This view demonstrates the regional government’s optimism about the future of the Papua Highlands region as a new center for economic growth based on modern and productive agriculture.
The government is also preparing to open approximately 2,000 hectares of rice fields in several districts in Jayawijaya to strengthen the long-term economic foundation of the community. This program is expected to increase agricultural productivity, expand employment opportunities, and promote food self-sufficiency for the Papuan people. All agricultural development will continue to be carried out with respect for the rights of indigenous communities through a farmer group-based management system and a profit-sharing system that supports the welfare of the people.
The rice field development program in Merauke also symbolizes the success of modern agricultural development in Papua. Thousands of hectares of land have been developed to support national food security and create new centers of economic growth in eastern Indonesia. This program demonstrates that Papua is now a strategic region for supporting future national development.
In the infrastructure sector, the construction of the Trans-Papua Highway is concrete evidence of the government’s commitment to opening up isolated areas and strengthening connectivity between regions. The presence of this road provides significant benefits to the community by facilitating mobility, logistics distribution, and accelerating economic growth, even to the interior of Papua.
Acting Director of HMTP, Kun Hartawan, assessed that the involvement of local workers in the construction of the Trans Papua Road demonstrates that government development directly benefits the Papuan people. He stated that infrastructure development also serves as a means of empowering Papuan human resources to become more superior and productive in the future.
The government also continues to strengthen the modernization of quarantine and laboratory supervision to improve the quality of Papuan agricultural and fishery commodities so they can compete in national and global markets. Sulaeman L. Hamzah, a member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), assessed that this strengthened supervision is a crucial step in increasing the competitiveness of Papuan commodities while supporting sustainable economic growth for the community.
These various developments demonstrate that Papua is currently moving towards a brighter future the presence of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) is not merely a physical development, but also a symbol of the people’s economic revival, strengthening human resources, and equitable distribution of prosperity in the Land of Papua. Therefore, all elements of the nation need to continue to support an atmosphere of peace and unity so that the development process can proceed optimally and its benefits can be increasingly felt by the community.
Emanuel Mikael Kota believes that the Papuan people currently need a sense of security, development, and a better future. He believes that the spirit of unity and optimism must be maintained so that Papua can develop into a developed, peaceful, and prosperous region as an important part of Indonesia.
Through the various National Strategic Projects (PSN) implemented by the government, Papua is now on the right track towards progress and prosperity. The presence of infrastructure development, strengthening the agricultural sector, empowering indigenous communities, and improving public services are clear evidence that the state is present to develop Papua in an inclusive and equitable manner. With community support and maintained social stability, Papua is believed to become one of Indonesia’s major strengths in the eastern region and a vital part of realizing a Golden Indonesia.
