Lately, the media in the country are busy discussing the death of Johannes Marliem. Johannes Marliem is touted as a key witness of E-KTP corruption that died in the US. Johannes Marliem’s name began to appear in the mass media, when the corruption case procurement electronic identity card (e-ID card) rose to the green table. Marliem’s name is mentioned as one of the entrepreneurs who participated in the project worth Rp 5.9 trillion.

Friday (12/08/2017) night, news of the death of Johannes Marliem began rumored media in Indonesia. Johannes reportedly killed suicide at his residence in Baverly Grove, Los Angeles, United States. However, the true mystery about Marliem’s death has not yet been revealed. The case is currently still being handled by local security authorities.

Marliem is the Director of Biomorf Lone LLC, USA. In an e-KTP project, Marliem has been a provider of Automated Finger Print Identification System (AFIS) products in e-ID card projects in Indonesia.

The death of e-KTP corruption key witness, Johannes Marliem, still leaves a big question. Some people speculate that his death is more than mere suicide. This is because he was disappointed at the leadership of the KPK and a national media because of the news that made his life threatened.

The death of Johannes Marliem, of course, will hamper the settlement of e-ID card cases because of Johannes Marliem’s position as a key witness in this case. However, Johannes Marliem’s death can not necessarily be associated with the case of e-ID card.

The corruption case of e-ID card, is one of the big cases which until now still handled by KPK. This case is somewhat difficult to resolve because of the many people involved in it.

However, as a society, we should not speculate too much. As good citizens, we follow the ongoing legal process without too much intervention, this is to make it easier for investigators to solve the case.
