The Percentage of Poor Citizen in Central Kalimantan

Rice as primary commodity

CIDISS – Statistical central board (BPS) reported data about poor percentage in all regency of Central Kalimantan province. The number of poor people (people with total expense per month under average) in this province on September 2016 is about 137.463 people (5,36 percent).

According to BPS’s data, the list of poor percentages is;

  1. Palangka Raya 3,91%,
  2. Lamandau 3,95%,
  3. Sukamara 4,32%,
  4. Barito Selatan 5,07%,
  5. Kotawaringin Barat 5,07%.
  6. Pulang Pisau 5,65%,
  7. Barito Utara 5,93%,
  8. Kapuas 6,03%,
  9. Gunung Mas 6,17%.
  10. Kotawaringin Timur 6,42%,
  11. Katingan 6,53%,
  12. Murung Raya 6,57%,
  13. Barito Timur 8,41%.
  14. The highest percentage of poor people in central Kalimantan is Seruyan with 8,50%.

 

Head of biro, statistical BPS Central Kalimantan, Syafi’i Nur said that food is the highest factor in caused of poverty. According to data, the expenses by people is as follow; rice, cigarette, egg, meat, sugar and noodle.

Bold underline, it’s on cigarette variable. Cigarette is the second after rice as primary commodity. According to him, cigarette give 11,14 percent of poverty in the urban and 10,40 percent in village.

“The food commodity toward poverty is higher than house, clothes, education and health,” said Syafi’i such in Antarakalteng.
