Traditional Food as Economic Chance for People

CIDISS – Home industry traditional food in Kotawaringin Timur Regency, Central Kalimantan become an economic chance for people, especially woman.

Leader of PKK team, Pelangsian village, mentawa baru ketapang district, Linda said the Keripik Pisang (Traditional food from banana) provides job vacancy and give positive effect to people’s economic.

“In our village, the industry of Keripik Pisang provides job vacancy, especially for house wife. Banana from people’s garden is bought by them, and then it is also effect on people’s economic,” said linda.

Keripik Pisang is food / snack that made and consumed by people. The potency is developed in order has positive effect through people’s economic. The Keripik Pisang process production is still traditional and using kitchen traditional tool.

Bahan baku pisang kepok dibeli dari kebun warga setempat dengan harga Rp3000/kg. Sekitar 50 kilogram pisang kepok dihabiskan dalam produksi setiap harinya. Untungnya, tidak sulit mendapatkan pisang kepok karena banyak warga desa yang menanam pisang jenis ini. Untuk menarik minat pembeli, keripik pisang produksi warga Desa Pelangsian dibuat dengan varian rasa seperti balado, jagung manis dan original.

Pisang is bought from people with the price IDR 3,000/kg. Every day, it needs around 50 kg. In selling, they make various taste of keripik pisang such balado, jagung manis (sweet corn) and original.

Keripik also packed in small plastic and sell with low price, IDR 2.000 per package. In the beginning, they only sell it in traditional market, now they have invasion into another district.

“They earn money about a million rupiah each month. Now, the house wife has own income from profit when selling the keripik pisang,” said Linda.

Village government keeps push and support the Endeavour from people in selling keripik pisang.
