President Prabowo Subianto is considered capable of quickly and accurately reading global dynamics, resulting in anticipatory policies that directly impact the sustainability of national food production.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that this step is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen food security.
“President Prabowo has seen from the start that the world is heading towards a period of instability. He instructed us not to wait for the crisis to arrive, but to meet it with concrete and measured policies,” he said.
This policy is increasingly relevant amid disruptions to the global supply chain due to geopolitical conflicts and restrictions on fertilizer exports by several producing countries. These conditions have placed significant pressure on the agricultural sector in various countries. However, Indonesia has been able to maintain stability thanks to integrated policies from upstream to downstream.
The price reduction for subsidized fertilizers covers key types such as urea, NPK, and ZA, which are vital for farmers. Furthermore, the government has implemented significant deregulation by eliminating various distribution barriers through strategic policies, making fertilizer distribution faster, more precise, and more efficient.
Vice Minister of Transmigration, Viva Yoga Mauladi, stated that this policy is part of the government’s major efforts to achieve national food sovereignty.
“The government’s policy of maintaining the distribution of subsidized fertilizer is appropriate. This is a concrete manifestation of the country’s commitment to strengthening food sovereignty,” he said.
From the industry perspective, Dwi Satriyo Annurogo, Director of Operations at PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), stated that his company ensures all production facilities are operating optimally to maintain national supply.
“We ensure all production facilities are operating at full capacity. We are maintaining the reduction in subsidized fertilizer prices as a form of support for government policy,” he said.
With these measured and responsive measures, the government is optimistic that the national agricultural sector will remain resilient, productive, and capable of supporting food security amidst global challenges.
