ASEAN Summit Affirms Prabowo’s Leadership to Strengthen Energy Security and ASEAN’s Future

CEBU – The leadership of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto once again received attention at the BIMP-EAGA Special Summit, part of the 48th ASEAN Summit series in Cebu. At the forum, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of strengthening regional collaboration to create a resilient, independent ASEAN capable of collectively facing global challenges.

President Prabowo emphasized that ASEAN’s future is determined not only by economic growth, but also by the success of member countries in strengthening energy and food security for their communities.

“This Special Summit comes at a critical time. The challenges we face demand closer and more effective collaboration among us,” President Prabowo said in his speech.

The Head of State assessed that the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) cooperation must be increasingly adaptive, responsive, and deliver tangible impacts on the welfare of the people in the region, especially those in border and remote areas.

“Our priority is clear: protecting the safety and livelihoods of our people. The BIMP-EAGA 2035 vision has given us a clear direction. Now the task is to make it a reality,” the President emphasized.

Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening regional resilience is also demonstrated through concrete steps in the energy sector. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia conveyed that President Prabowo’s directive was very clear: to ensure that energy development is not only concentrated in large cities, but also reaches underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.

“This meeting aims to encourage development in the 3T regions for the four member countries. We want to ensure that people in remote areas have access to affordable energy,” Bahlil said.

Indonesia is also pushing for the acceleration of clean energy projects such as hydropower development in Kalimantan, solar energy in Palawan, and wind energy in coastal areas. Furthermore, strengthening the Trans Borneo Power Grid is believed to strengthen cross-border energy connectivity more efficiently and reliably.

Through President Prabowo’s leadership at the ASEAN Summit, Indonesia once again demonstrated its strategic role as a driving force for stability, solidarity, and equitable regional development to realize a strong, inclusive, and globally competitive ASEAN future.
