Jakarta – The government, along with the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has begun intensifying anticipatory measures to address potential layoffs (PHK) by establishing a Layoff Mitigation Task Force.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi explained that the Task Force will strengthen coordination across ministries and institutions, improve data exchange, and conduct a comprehensive mapping of various issues facing the business world.
“Layoffs are not always related to the supply of raw materials such as gas or coal. Sometimes there are internal conflicts within company management. Whatever the cause, it is our collective responsibility to mitigate the situation,” he said.
Prasetyo emphasized that the current threat of layoffs is not concentrated in one specific sector. Based on government mapping, the causes are diverse, ranging from declining market demand, capital issues due to problems in the banking sector, to constraints on raw material supply.
“We will study each issue one by one and find a solution,” Prasetyo said.
He also revealed that the Task Force successfully prevented the planned relocation of two automotive companies to Vietnam. Based on reports from the field team, the decision to relocate the investment was temporarily postponed after intensive communication with the relevant parties.
“The planned relocation can be temporarily postponed. That is the task of the Task Force: to detect as early as possible, mitigate as early as possible, and find solutions to any problems that arise,” he said.
Furthermore, support for this measure also came from the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad emphasized that parliament would be an active partner with the government in ensuring the effective mitigation of layoffs through continuous coordination.
“So, the Layoff Mitigation Task Force, the government, and the DPR will meet regularly to coordinate,” Dasco said.
This is being done so that the government can now focus on resolving various employment issues and strengthening the industrial sector.
Said Iqbal, Special Advisor to the President for Employment and Labor Welfare, expressed his opinion that the government’s move demonstrates a strong commitment to maintaining industrial sustainability while protecting workers. He emphasized that various mitigation efforts are continuing to minimize the wave of layoffs.
“We are currently implementing mitigation measures at various companies to minimize layoffs as much as possible. Not all circulating information reflects the real conditions on the ground,” said Said Iqbal.
Through integrated work between the government, the House of Representatives (DPR), and various stakeholders, the Layoff Mitigation Task Force is expected to become a strategic instrument in maintaining the investment climate, strengthening the competitiveness of national industry, and providing certainty for the business world and protection for Indonesian workers.
