MBG Strengthens Government Efforts to Create a Healthy Generation

The government’s commitment to creating a healthy and quality generation continues to be strengthened through the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program, which is now expanding across various regions. This priority program of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration is considered a strategic step in improving the nutritional quality of the community while supporting human resource development towards Indonesia Emas 2045. In addition to focusing on public health, this program is also aimed at strengthening national food security and stimulating the people’s economy through the involvement of local businesses.

The government’s commitment is evident when President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate 166 National Police Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) and attend the Simultaneous Corn Harvest in the second quarter of 2026 in Tuban Regency, East Java. The inauguration is part of the accelerated implementation of the MBG and strengthens synergy between the government and various institutions in supporting the national development agenda based on health and food security.

The Head of the National Police’s Free Nutritious Meals Task Force, Inspector General Nurworo Danang, stated that the National Police fully supports the program, as ensuring nutrition and food security are crucial foundations for building a healthy, strong, and competitive generation in Indonesia. He stated that the MBG program is not simply a nutritious food distribution program but also creates economic impact through the involvement of local businesses in the national food supply chain.

The MBG program is considered proof that the government is striving to implement policies that directly address community needs. By involving farmers, MSMEs, and local workers, this program has created a new economic ecosystem that works hand in hand with improving public health. Therefore, the program’s sustainability must be continuously strengthened so that its benefits can be felt widely and equitably.

As of mid-May 2026, the Indonesian National Police’s MBG Task Force recorded the development of 1,376 SPPG units across Indonesia. A total of 736 units were operational, serving approximately 1.84 million beneficiaries. The program also successfully employed nearly 36,800 workers. Furthermore, 172 units were still in the operational preparation stage, and another 468 units were under construction, including in remote areas.

These achievements demonstrate a real acceleration in the implementation of the government’s priority programs. During the first year of the administration, various sectors have been deemed to have experienced significant progress, ranging from strengthening public health services, increasing food security, developing infrastructure to support food distribution, and expanding needs-based social assistance. The government is also considered successful in maintaining national food stability amidst global economic challenges and strengthening cross-agency collaboration in implementing national strategic programs.

In addition to expanding services, the government, through the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), is also implementing innovations to maintain the quality of food received by the public. One such initiative is the launch of the MBG Menu Review or Organoleptic App as a food quality monitoring system within the MBG program. This digital innovation aims to ensure that distributed food meets safety, hygiene, and nutritional standards.

The Deputy Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, explained that the application is designed to ensure that monitoring is not only carried out internally but also directly involves beneficiaries. Schools and integrated health service posts (Posyandu) are given a crucial role in monitoring the quality of food received by program participants. With the involvement of various parties in the field, monitoring is expected to be more transparent and effective.

The system also serves as an early detection tool to prevent potential problems in food distribution. With real-time data entry, the government can immediately evaluate any discrepancies found in the field. This step demonstrates that the government is not only focused on the quantity of food distributed, but also on the quality and safety of the food consumed by the public.

MBG Menu Review Dashboard data as of May 23, 2026, shows quite positive results. Of the 1,707 reports received, only two reported food in an unfit condition. These results demonstrate that the quality control system in place is effective in maintaining food standards for the public.

On the other hand, the implementation of MBG has also begun to show positive impacts on students’ health and enthusiasm for learning. Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Fajar Riza Ul Haq, assessed that the program has had a positive impact on students’ well-being.

While reviewing the implementation of the MBG (Educational Group) at Wahdah Islamiyah Senior High School in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Fajar Riza Ul Haq engaged in direct dialogue with students, teachers, and health workers. During the visit, students provided feedback regarding menu variety, including requests for increased fruit and vegetable intake. He believes this feedback is crucial for improving the quality of MBG services going forward.

Fajar Riza Ul Haq stated that the program’s implementation at the school was going well, with no serious issues encountered. In addition to reviewing the distribution of nutritious food, he also monitored the School Health Unit facilities and the routine health checks conducted on students by community health center staff.

The MBG program will ultimately become more than just a food aid program, but also a major investment by the state in creating a healthy, intelligent, and productive generation. Collaboration between the government, educational institutions, security forces, health workers, and the community is key to ensuring the program’s sustainability. By strengthening service quality and equitable distribution, the MBG is expected to become a crucial foundation for realizing a healthier, more independent, and highly competitive future for Indonesia.
