Jakarta – The government continues to strengthen the resilience of the national media through a digital literacy program transformation that now focuses on improving the public’s ability to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) productively, critically, and responsibly. This step is a response to the rapid development of AI technology, which brings both new opportunities and challenges in the digital space.
The use of AI is considered capable of increasing the efficiency of content production, expanding access to information, and driving innovation across various sectors. However, the development of generative technology also presents threats such as disinformation, content manipulation, and AI-based digital fraud, which are increasingly difficult to detect.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, emphasized that digital literacy approaches need to be adapted to technological developments. He stated that the program, which has been running for almost a decade, is now geared toward improving competencies that are more relevant to community needs.
“Digital literacy programs now focus more on upskilling, improving skills that are more contextual and relevant to current developments,” said Nezar.
He explained that the evaluation results showed that the old approach was no longer adequate to meet the challenges of the AI era. Therefore, the focus of digital literacy is now directed at the public’s ability to recognize increasingly sophisticated hoaxes, disinformation, and misinformation due to the development of generative technology.
Meanwhile, HP Indonesia President Director Juliana Cen believes AI has become a crucial part of the modern workplace. She believes that the safe and responsible use of AI can increase productivity while strengthening human resource readiness for digital transformation.
“AI is no longer just a long-term ambition. Our focus is on helping organizations in Indonesia adopt AI in practical, safe, and meaningful ways,” said Juliana.
Strengthening AI literacy also goes hand in hand with increasing cybersecurity awareness. The Director of Security Operations and Information Control at the National Cyber and Cyber Security Agency (BSSN), Satryo Suryantoro, emphasized the importance of cyber literacy as a bulwark against new-generation digital threats.
“Improving cyber literacy is key to preventing people from falling prey to AI-based digital fraud,” said Satryo.
The government is optimistic that AI-based digital literacy transformation, supported by collaboration between government, industry, media, and communities, will strengthen the resilience of the national media and create a safe, adaptive, and competitive digital ecosystem in the era of technological transformation.
