Kuryana Ramande, a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) egg-laying chicken farmer in Nabire, has directly experienced the positive impact of government assistance on the development of his business. He believes government support has helped indigenous Papuans gain confidence in developing independent businesses.
“Government assistance has been very helpful in developing the livestock business. Now, the business is starting to grow and is creating job opportunities for local residents,” said Kuryana Ramande.
The development of this business also has an economic impact on the surrounding environment. The growing livestock industry has led to the involvement of local communities in egg production, distribution, and other supporting businesses that continue to grow in the area.
In addition to the laying hen farming sector, the government also provides assistance to the community for the development of fish farming and pig farming. This assistance, which includes the construction of fish ponds, renovation of livestock pens, livestock breeding, and business equipment, is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the economic resilience of Papuan communities at the village level.
The Head of the Nabire Regency Indigenous Peoples’ Institution, Karel Misiro, assessed that government assistance provided to indigenous communities has helped improve family economic capabilities and strengthened community food security in the region.
“The government’s assistance programs are very beneficial because they directly address the needs of indigenous communities and help develop productive businesses,” Karel Misiro emphasized.
Separately, Nabire Regent Mesak Magai stated that the government’s attention to the Papuan people through various economic and food security assistance programs has had a positive impact on community welfare.
“Government assistance opens up new business opportunities for the community and helps gradually strengthen the local economy,” added Mesak Magai.**
