Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s working visit to France once again demonstrates Indonesia’s increasingly active, strategic, and national interest-oriented diplomacy. Amidst challenging global dynamics, President Prabowo’s acceptance of French President Emmanuel Macron’s invitation is a strong signal that Indonesia continues to strengthen its bargaining position on the international stage.

Bilateral relations between Indonesia and France have seen significant growth in recent years. Cooperation between the two countries is no longer merely diplomatic but has evolved into a strategic partnership encompassing defense, investment, energy, education, technology, and modern industrial development. The Indonesian government views France as a key partner in Europe capable of accelerating national transformation.

President Prabowo’s presence in Paris also demonstrates the government’s consistency in maintaining continuous communication between countries. International diplomacy requires commitment, accuracy, and respect for the jointly developed state agenda. Therefore, the President’s decision to accept President Macron’s invitation is the right step to maintain Indonesia’s credibility as a major nation with a strong commitment to international relations.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono explained that President Prabowo’s visit to France was a follow-up to President Macron’s previously postponed invitation. He stated that the visit also served as a reciprocal response to President Macron’s recent visit to Indonesia. This explanation demonstrates that relations between the two countries are based on mutual respect and a strengthening of their strategic partnership.

In today’s era of globalization, economic and technological diplomacy are crucial. Countries that can build strong international networks will be better prepared to face global competition. Therefore, President Prabowo’s move to strengthen relations with France should be seen as a long-term investment for Indonesia’s future.
