Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that regulatory support from local governments will facilitate the implementation of these regulations in the community, especially in regulating children’s access to digital platforms.
“So, PP Tunas will be easier to implement if there are regulations, such as limiting the use of devices in schools. So, that was in the context of Education Day,” said Meutya in Jakarta.
She explained that policies such as limiting device use in schools can help children reduce their dependence on digital devices and increase focus in the learning process.
For example, one school in Central Jakarta, SMPN 1 Jakarta, has implemented restrictions on device use for students while on school grounds. This policy is considered effective in supporting the objectives of PP TUNAS.
“To reduce addiction, the Tunas Government Regulation would be greatly assisted if there were regulations in other areas that specifically stipulated that children should not bring their devices to school,” said Meutya.
Furthermore, Meutya stated that the implementation of the Tunas Government Regulation demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting young people in the digital space under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.
“This is his Government Regulation, signed by him, and it is the President’s determination that has enabled us to secure commitment and implementation from eight major platforms today,” she said.
Going forward, the Ministry of Communication and Digital will expand the scope of implementation by giving other platforms a deadline of June 6, 2026, to complete their self-assessment requirements.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, emphasized the importance of the involvement of all regional governments in ensuring the successful implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Implementation (PSE) in Child Protection.
He said the involvement of local governments, both at the provincial and district/city levels, is key to ensuring optimal child protection in the digital space.
“Everyone must be involved in this initiative. This is to protect children from the misuse of electronic systems, especially social media,” Tito said.
