The government continues to strengthen social protection through the distribution of food social assistance (bansos) in the form of rice and cooking oil as a measure to maintain public welfare amidst global economic dynamics and fluctuating prices of basic necessities. This program is a crucial instrument for the state to ensure public purchasing power remains strong, especially for vulnerable groups and low-income families. The presence of food social assistance not only helps meet basic community needs but also plays a role in maintaining social stability and strengthening national food security.
In recent months, the government, through the National Food Agency (Bapanas), and the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), has continued to accelerate the distribution of food aid to various regions across Indonesia. This aid distribution targets more than 33 million beneficiary families (KPM), with rice and cooking oil distributed in installments. The government considers the food social assistance program a strategic step to alleviate economic pressures on the community while maintaining stable food prices in the market.
The food aid program also demonstrates the government’s commitment to maintaining a balance between social protection and national economic stability. Amid global challenges such as uncertainty in the global food supply chain and volatility in international commodity prices, the government is striving to ensure that people continue to have access to basic necessities at affordable prices. The rice and cooking oil aid represents a tangible manifestation of the government’s presence in protecting the public from the impact of food inflation, which can impact household economic conditions.
The government has even allocated a budget of Rp11.92 trillion to support the distribution of rice and cooking oil food aid in 2026. This budget will be used to ensure smooth and targeted distribution. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that this policy aims to strengthen people’s purchasing power while maintaining national economic stability.
The distribution of food social assistance is also part of the national inflation control strategy. The government understands that rising food prices can directly impact the poor. Therefore, the distribution of rice and cooking oil aid is carried out in conjunction with efforts to maintain a secure national food supply. With the government’s continuously strengthened rice reserves, Indonesia is considered capable of maintaining food stability amidst global challenges.
The Head of the National Food and Agriculture Agency (Badan Bapanas) and Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, stated that the food aid program demonstrates the government’s commitment to the people. The government strives to ensure that those in need receive assistance quickly and equitably. The distribution of food social assistance is considered effective in easing household expenses, especially for those with limited incomes who are severely impacted by fluctuations in the prices of basic necessities.
In addition to helping beneficiaries, the food social assistance program also positively impacts domestic market stability. When aid distribution is effective, pressure on rice and cooking oil price spikes can be mitigated, resulting in more stable market conditions. This step is crucial for maintaining public optimism and creating a conducive economic climate at the national level.
The government also continues to evaluate and adjust policies to ensure more effective aid distribution. Recently, the government decided to extend the distribution of rice and cooking oil food aid until June 2026 to maintain food price stability and ensure the public remains protected from market price fluctuations. This extension demonstrates the government’s flexibility in responding to evolving economic conditions and public needs.
On the other hand, the public has welcomed the continuation of the food social assistance program, believing it helps maintain family economic resilience. Rice and cooking oil assistance is a crucial support for households in meeting daily needs, especially amidst the challenges of rising living costs. The presence of social assistance also demonstrates synergy between government institutions in maintaining public welfare through policies that directly address basic needs.
The food social assistance program not only impacts the economy but also strengthens public trust in the government. When the government is actively present through social protection programs, people feel supported and assured amidst various economic challenges. This is crucial for maintaining social stability and strengthening national solidarity in the face of evolving global dynamics.
Moving forward, the government is expected to continue strengthening the aid distribution system to ensure it is more targeted and efficient. Utilizing digital technology, strengthening beneficiary data, and cross-regional coordination are crucial factors in ensuring aid reaches those in need. With improved governance, the food social assistance program can become a strategic instrument in strengthening national social and economic resilience.
Social food assistance in the form of rice and cooking oil has become one of the main supports for the welfare of the Indonesian people. This program not only helps maintain people’s purchasing power, but also strengthens food stability, controls inflation, and supports national economic resilience. The government’s commitment to maintaining the sustainability of food social assistance shows that protecting the community remains a top priority in national development.
