Jakarta – The government continues to strengthen cross-sector coordination to prevent a wave of layoffs (PHK) amidst the still-challenging global economic dynamics. This step is being taken through monitoring labor-intensive industries, strengthening communication with businesses and labor unions, and expanding workforce training programs to maintain national employment stability.
Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, emphasized that the government understands public concerns regarding potential layoffs due to the economic slowdown in several industrial sectors. Therefore, various mitigation measures are being implemented to ensure optimal protection for workers.
“We understand the concerns regarding the wave of layoffs. The government continues to take various anticipatory measures and strengthen worker protection,” said Yassierli.
According to him, the government is not only focused on addressing affected workers but also strengthening the resilience of the national workforce through vocational training, reskilling, and upskilling programs. These efforts are considered crucial to enable the Indonesian workforce to adapt to industrial developments and changing job market needs.
“We continue to promote vocational training, reskilling, and upskilling so that Indonesian workers can adapt to industrial changes and global economic challenges,” he said.
Furthermore, the government continues to strengthen coordination with the business sector and labor unions to maintain conducive industrial relations. A dialogical approach is considered key to finding the best solutions to various labor challenges.
“The government wants to ensure that businesses continue to grow, but workers also receive maximum protection. We continue to maintain that balance,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Manpower, Afriansyah Noor, stated that the government has been conducting strict supervision of labor-intensive sectors that are vulnerable to the impact of global economic turmoil. This step is taken as a preventative measure to suppress potential layoffs early on.
“We are conducting strict supervision of labor-intensive industries to prevent potential layoffs early,” he said.
At the regional level, various programs to expand employment opportunities are also being implemented. The Head of the Malang City Manpower, Investment, and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency, Arif Tri Sastyawan, stated that the local government is actively holding workforce training and job fairs, as well as strengthening communication with the business sector to maintain employment stability.
