The Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Meutya Hafid, stated that digital literacy is no longer limited to the ability to use technological devices, but also includes an understanding of how AI works, personal data security, digital media ethics, and the ability to think critically in filtering information.
“Digital literacy must continue to evolve with the changing times. In the AI era, people need the ability to utilize technology intelligently, safely, productively, and responsibly,” he said.
The use of AI has penetrated nearly every sector, from education and healthcare to public services, the creative industry, and even the business world. Therefore, the government continues to develop a more adaptive digital literacy approach to equip the public with new skills that align with the needs of the workplace and future technological developments.
“AI development must be balanced with increased community capacity so that the technology can provide optimal benefits for various sectors of life,” said Meutya.
Similarly, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Wamenkomdigi), Nezar Patria, stated that Komdigi continues to strengthen collaboration with universities, industry players, digital communities, and educational institutions to expand the reach of its digital literacy programs. Through this synergy, the public is expected to gain access to more relevant training, including an introduction to AI, cybersecurity, personal data protection, and the use of digital technology to increase productivity and innovation.
“Collaboration is key to ensuring inclusive digital transformation. Strong digital literacy will foster a society capable of adapting to AI developments while creating innovations that add value to the national economy,” he explained.
According to him, the development of AI must be balanced with increasing community capacity so that the technology can provide optimal benefits for various sectors of life.
“The public is expected to be able to recognize AI-engineered content, maintain the security of their digital identities, and use technology ethically in accordance with applicable norms and regulations,” he stressed.
