Jakarta – The government continues to strengthen anticipatory measures to prevent mass layoffs (PHK) in the industrial sector by establishing a Layoff Mitigation Task Force. This measure was taken as a rapid response to labor dynamics and to maintain economic stability and business continuity amidst the various challenges facing the industrial sector.
The formation of the Layoff Mitigation Task Force is the result of coordination between the government, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), labor unions, and various other stakeholders. The task force is led by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and is tasked with strengthening coordination across ministries and institutions in monitoring, anticipating, and addressing potential layoffs in various regions.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi explained that the formation of the Task Force was intended to bridge various parties in efforts to prevent layoffs and resolve labor issues comprehensively.
“The process of forming the Disaster Mitigation Task Force took approximately one year. Then everyone agreed to ask us to become the chair of the Layoff Mitigation Task Force. We are considered to be able to bridge various parties and relevant stakeholders,” said Prasetyo.
Through the Layoff Mitigation Task Force, the government will monitor companies that are potentially laying off employees, strengthen the information exchange system between agencies, and find solutions to various obstacles faced by companies to avoid layoffs.
These efforts are also strengthened through regular coordination between the government, the House of Representatives (DPR RI), labor unions, and other relevant institutions. Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination to ensure that any potential layoffs can be anticipated quickly and appropriately.
“So, the Layoff Mitigation Task Force, the government, and the DPR will meet regularly to coordinate,” said Dasco.
In the latest coordination meeting, the government and stakeholders mapped companies that are potentially experiencing layoffs and identified the root causes of the problems faced by each company.
“Regarding information about several companies that are potentially laying off employees, today we are coordinating to map the companies and identify the problems they face, so we can take mitigation steps,” said Prasetyo.
The government affirmed its commitment to continued intensive monitoring and information exchange to maintain a conducive employment climate, protect workers, and ensure the industrial sector continues to grow and contribute to the national economy.
“We are jointly monitoring and exchanging information regarding issues occurring in companies that could potentially lead to layoffs,” he emphasized.
