The grand event of the Asian Games which will take place in Jakarta and Palembang on August 8, 2018 until September 2, 2018 not only affects the Indonesian economy, but also increases the pride of the Indonesian people, raising public awareness to exercise, which is no less important raising Indonesia’s profile in the eyes of International.
Minister of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro said that it is fair for many countries whose profile to rise after hosting an international event, for example is South Korea, In 1986 South Korea became the host home of the 10th Asian Games and in 1988 hosted the 24th Summer Olympics in the same city, South Korea is aware that the international event is a momentum to be able to boost the value and image of his country, in 2002 South Korea shows itself again as host of Asian games in Busan, and the World Cup with Japan in the same year, and was chosen to host the 17th Asian Games in 2014 in Incheon.
“This is an example of a country that is actively taking advantage of international events to improve its country and economic profile with a variety of international events in its country,”
Another example of success, Bambang said, is the 27th Summer Olympics in Sydney Australia that could boost the New South Wales economy to $ 490 million annually during the 12-year preparatory period and after the event, from the present value of the Olympic impact on the Australian economy to 6 , 5 billion USD and employment increased 5300 in New South Wales and in Australia City averaged 7500 per year for 12year.
Bambang hopes that after the implementation of the Asian Games, Indonesia will not only have economic impacts like Australia but also have non-economic impacts such as South Korea.
Bappenas estimates that the direct impact of expenditure of participants and visitors of Asian Games 2018 reached 3.6 trillion rupiahs, with details of expenditure of 2.5 trillion rupiah in Jakarta with the concentration of participants and visitors distribution of 70 percent, and 1.1 trillion rupiah in Palembang with the concentration of distribution participants and visitors as much as 30 percent.
