CIDISS – Jakarta. Responding to the case of hostage taking in two villages, in Papua, the Chief of Police and the TNI Commander stated that they had coordinated and determined a strategy for solving the problem.
The National Police chief, Gen. Tito Karnavian, insisted that the Police and the Armed Forces have coordinated a strategy for dealing with the resistance of the armed criminal group (KKB) in Tembagapura, Mimika, Papua.
“Setting the power of Polri and TNI already exist, I have coordinated with the TNI Commander,” said Tito at Police Headquarters, Jakarta, Thursday, November 16, 2017.
Police Chief of Police, Inspector General Boy Rafli Amar and Commander of Military Region XVII Cenderawasih, Major General George Elnadus Supit has also been in Tembagapura to solve the problem.
“The police chief and the military commander are there, our strength is enough, but the number of KKBs is great, and they control the terrain, it’s a height of almost 2,000 meters, quite heavy there,” explained the Chief of Police.
Tito said it seeks to prevent further casualties by continuing to pursue persuasive steps.
“Of course, we hope there will be no casualties from our officers, so our persuasive steps will continue through the church line, the traditional route, the local government route, all of which we are all doing,” Tito concluded.
In line with this, the TNI Commander said the TNI-Polri was in the process of preparing an anticipatory strategy if something happened during the ongoing negotiations.
“The state must be present everywhere and protect the people everywhere, the TNI will attend whatever its cost,” said the Commander.
General Gatot also gave an ultimatum to take another step if it turns out the negotiations are not working.
“If the negotiations do not work, everything is not willing, even challenging, it’s another story then will it,” said Gatot.
Gatot also explained, about weapons used KKB allegedly a robbery of the army of the army.
