Found Bones of Orang Utan in Palm Oil Plantation

Choirul Fuadi, Central Kalimantan, CIDISS – Orang utan is a reserved animals by government through Law No 5 year 1990.

But, the developing palm oil plantation in Central Kalimantan, make the habitat of orang utan in scarce condition. Moreover, there are wild hunt to the orang utan.

Lately, was found bones and feather of orang utan. The founding was located in 4 spots that are in the middle of big private company plantation in the border of Kotawaringin Barat (Kobar) and Seruyan regency of central Kalimantan.

Based on eyewitness who citizen of Tanjung Hanau village, Hanau district, Seruyan regency which close to the plantation, he assumes that orang utan is victim of hunting. An employee was suspect of this hunt which assumed killing 20 orang utans. They assumed that orang utan as threat for palm oil plantation.

The case now under investigated by Nature Conservation Agency of Indonesia, Section Conservation II, Pangkalan Bun. (*)
